i got about half way cuz at first i thought it was gay. then i tried it and liked it but by that time the 2nd was out

I really recommend that you play the first one. Chain of Memories is not necessary plot-wise, but its interesting.
I just got Re: Chain of Memories for Christmas. Its just cool to see the Organization members that were missing in KHII.
Consequently, did you ever beat Sephiroth in KHII?

I like them all, but I lost the Chain of Memories game half way through, so I never found out what happened. The first one is the best, and it takes forever to beat. The second is really easy, but I like how you can visit a place twice and have another story.

Sora's story has 13 floors (lol, Organization XIII). The first floor is always Traverse Town. Then you are given two sets of world cards (one after the other) you can visit those worlds in any order you want.
Floors, 11, 12, and 13 are Twilight Town, Desitny Islands, and Castle Oblivion, respectively.
I am not sure about Reverse/Rebirth Mode.

no, seriously. Use Magnega on top of Pride Rock and the experience rolls in. Not INSTANTLY, but pretty damn quick. Its how I got o lv 99.
