"Running away from something?" Jin's voice rang throughout the area Tris traversed. It sounded kinder than it normally did, but the fact that it was uttered from apparently nowhere was still probably enough to frighten the average man.

Stella shot him a defiant stare. "Fine. When do you want me to start working?"
~~~~~
Tris whirled around again, this time his ice magic instinctively coming to life in his hand. No one was there. at all. He was completely alone. Who spoke? He decided to keep going, but kept his magic ready to cast, though he doubted he would have any control over it if he ever had to use it.
"It's a title." Ethan explained. "See, unlike in Mundus Magica, there are no definite nations to control the use of magic and mages. Mages on Earth have a great deal more freedom, and as a result, often times need a lot of watching. Or else." He said ominously. "There is a loose "Magic Association" that exists, but it is a largly disorganized body at best, and usually only intervenes in the most important of issues." Ethan began pacing.
He'd run into trouble with the Association before, on one of his many trips to Earth in the past. "A Magi is a 'Sentinel' or a Moderator of sorts. Mages are people too and live mostly in cities." He continued. "Well, putting a whole bunch of mages together in one place is generally asking for trouble, so usually has a head mage who oversees the magical problems that the townsmen might have."
"Or eliminate any unfortunate soul who accidently stumbles upon magic's existence. he added silently. "That is a Magi."
"So if we want to get anywhere in searching this city, we should probably contact the local Magi first." the boy hellan finished.
"Come back tomorrow." Izzy waved her off. "I need you here bright and early. And your friend looks like she could use a rest." He grinned viciously.
He began to walk back towards the stairs, to retreat into his shop, but stopped at the first stair. "Oh, and hang onto that ring. It WILL help you." With that, he disappeared up the stairs, his path illuminated by the glowing blue orb of Stella's soul.
"Where are the magi?" Cedric called from several hundred yards away. Everyone ignored him.
"I didn't know there was a mage academy here?" Adden said.
"Really?" Yolanda fixed a curious look on the summoner. "You lived in Mundas Veritas for twelve years, and didn't know about the Academy in...New...York City? I haven't even been here until just now, and I even knew it existed."
"I barely knew there were other magi, here," he admitted shamefully. "I mostly kept to myself - though I had Jorsin, Hessepat, and Raefae for company. Ethan was the first real mage I encountered in the world."
Yolanda's face fell in sympathy. "That's..."
"Pathetic," Torran declared. "Even a low-grade mage can feel other mages. Even given this world's dearth of them, I can easily locate...six or seven mages in the immediate area. Wait a minute..."
Torran stepped away from the group. "That's...they all feel familiar." He smirked. "Ethan! We may be in the company of some old friends."
"The former team Deathblade, it would seem. What are they calling themselves now?"
"Team Friendship," Adden said a little too cheerily. Everyone shot him a look.
"Gay," Cedric muttered as he tramped past them team to search in the opposite direction for the nonexistant magi. He has no ability to sense magic whatsoever.
"Ahem, anyway," Torran continued. "It seems like our - well, your - old nemesis, Jin, is here as well. Someone please tell me you can at least detect HIM."
"What exactly do you want to know, Headmaster?" Markis asked uncertainly. He definitely was a little hesitant to reveal much about his past.
"Your abilities, young man." Dolan smiled and leaned forward, resting his head on his folded hands. "This is indeed a magical academy, but they usually tend to favor your natural abilities. This information is usually required."
"Well, now is a great time to stop that. He's here, and I can only assume he's causing trouble." He paused. "Oh, and Team Friendship is likely to screw things up as well." Following that, he lapsed back into silence. Nothing would make him speak now.
Cedric chose that moment to return. "Well, there ain't no magi round here."
Stella angrily watched Izzy leave. Bastard. Then she turned back to Krysta who, while still staring wide-eyed, allowed her friend to lift her to her feet. When they were safety outside, Stella finally asked, "What?"
"You-your aura, Sparks, it's gone."
"Well, Izzy DID take my soul."
"I know but...I did not think this would happen." She squinted at Stella. "No, I was wrong, your aura's not gone; it's just...black."
"Black?"
"Inside it was difficult to tell, but now..."
"What does it mean?"
"I'm not sure, Sparks."
"Great."
"Come now." Jin spoke softly, his voice once again coming from no discernible location. "There is no reason for you to be alarmed." Jin laughed as he said this. Of course there is...Voices coming from nowhere are not all that common... he mused. "I understand what you are going through, Tristezza." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once Karl had led them to a miniature forest adjacent to the White House, he hastily shoved the stolen pieces of clothing into his teammates' hands. "Put those on." he instructed. "We'll be at that White House place in a matter of moments. There, above all other places, would people who look like us..." Karl glanced from person to person. They were all humanoid; Karl had paler skin and slightly pointed ears, Cryon was bluish in color, Shadow Ella was...Shadow Ella, and Cid was the most human of them. Probably because he was the only human of them. Despite their humanoid figures, the four still looked very strange and quite suspicious traveling together. "...be considered suspicious. Quickly now, everyone."
Shadow Ella took her bundle of garments and held them up in disgust. "You can't be serious! I can't go around wearing this!" In her hands were a long, yellow polka dotted dress, a beige sunhat and an orange parasol. "If I wear this, I'll look absolutely ridiculous!" she whined.
"Yes, you will. Picked them out myself." Karl smiled. "That's the kind of tasteful clothing one should wear when meeting with the leader of a nation." Karl had never met the President, of course, so he had no idea what should be worn during a meeting with him. He did know, however, that a low-cut black almost-dress was not it.
"Hmph." she growled.
"And what in tarnation is this supposed to be?!" Cid was holding a baseball cap, a long gold chain, pants that were roughly 2 sizes too large and a T-shirt that sported a picture of Vanilla Ice.
"Look, I 'borrowed' clothes that I felt would help you blend in the most. Deal with them!" Karl snapped.
Cryon held up his own clothing: A leather jacket, white shirt, belt and brown pants with a bottle of hair grease inside the pocket. He said nothing about them, instead going away to change.
"You see? Why can't you all be more appreciative like Cryon?" Karl growled. Looking at his own handful of clothes, a long black almost lab coat like jacket, black pants, sunglasses and...a pistol, he followed Cryon's lead and went off to change.
"Easy for you to say. You got clothing that doesn't make you look like a complete idiot!" Shadow Ella shouted after him. "Hmph..." She began to mutter words of anger under her breath, and was about to change her clothing when she looked behind her. Cid was still standing there, looking at her with a very, very creepy expression on his face.
"Oh, I uh...Was just, um...Getting my contacts!" Cid laughed nervously when Shadow Ella turned around. He bent down (much to the annoyance of his back) and did the old 'pretend to look for his contact' trick. His face flushed a bright red as he braced himself for what was about to happen.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAH! YOU PERVERT! SOLARESPLOSO CENTINAIO!!!" Shadow Ella's voice could probably be heard throughout the entire District of Colombia as she screamed, sending many a bird to take a startled flight out of the patch of trees.
"Oh boy..." Cid looked up and, as he expected, there was an enormous glowing ball of light hovering several yards above him. "This isn't going to end well." he muttered, and - for the second time that day - he was right.
The ball of light widened into what was now a huge circle of light about 10 feet in diameter, and before he could even think about apologizing (or running away, for that matter) a massive, continuous beam of light energy traveled from the circle downward, hitting Cid directly where he stood.
Karl and Cryon came running back to that central area from the places where they had been getting changed, Karl looking almost exactly like Neo from The Matrix and Cryon looking like a greaser from the 1950s. Neither one was exactly surprised at what they saw, but the sight still was able to catch them slightly off guard.
"Shadow Ella! What are you doing?!" Karl demanded.
Shadow Ella turned to face Karl, the unholy destructive power of her spell ceasing for at least a moment. "Taking care of old Peeping Tom over there! Hmph!" she shouted, running off into the distance to change.
She left Cid standing there; his appearance was reminiscent of that of a cartoon character that had just been burned to a crisp in a way that should have been lethal.
"Ugh..." Karl sighed. "Cid, I'm not going to say you didn't deserve that, because you did." Oh, you most certainly did. This will be an added punishment for your relative uselessness... "Let's not have to go into any sexual harassment lawsuits, alright? Now hurry up and get dressed!" Karl commanded.
"Excuse an ol' man for tryin' to have some fun!" Cid coughed, giving his weak justification for attempting to stick around long enough to see Shadow Ella change. He wiped a few of the ashes and/or charred skin cells from his face and followed orders, going off toward the direction Shadow Ella had disappeared to.
"Cid..." Karl muttered impatiently.
"Fine, fine...Can't blame a guy for tryin!" Cid wheezed, casually strolling away from Shadow Ella's general direction and into a different patch of trees to change his attire.
"I most certainly can..." Karl sighed, rubbing his temple in exasperation.
"Who are you? How do you know my name?" Tristezza had ceased running now, holding his arms outstretched in what he assumed was a defensive posture, ice tinkling in his hands, eager to leap out at any perceived threat. It scared him, how ready the magic was to attack. He lowered one hand to his pocket and clutched at the lucky coin for dear life.
"Who...?"
"Ha ha ha ha ha..." Jin chuckled. "How can I not know your name? You are practically a celebrity in the news. They all believe you to be the cause of the recent homicides. I can understand why you are running away..."
There were times when Cole found his job to be a bit stressful. Dealing with keeping track of all the mages in a city and making sure that they didn't cause trouble certainly wasn't the easiest task in the world. But it seemed that lately there had been an increase on his workload, making the Magi very irritated.
He sighed and opened his eyes, stepping away from the bar, leaving change on the counter. He got up to leave, waving at a couple of folks, greeting a few others. There were a couple of mages in the corner of the bar; he knew they were from the way they watched him almost warily.
he ignored them, instead leaving the diner, and stepping out into the street. He closed his eyes again. Someone just used magic." he thought. "Someone I don't recognize. An unmarked mage?" His face twisted into a frown. "Not on my watch."
From what he could sense, the source of the magic had come from..." He turned and found himself staring at the large white building visible over the buildings. The White House.
"Oh God no...."
"Maybe." Ethan said. "it's in New York, which is a fair bit away. We should check around the city for clues first. And check with the local mages."
"I'm rather good at warding." Markis said after a moment. It was true...sort of. He was good at wards. Wards that used blood runes. "I suppose I like to use elemental magic a bit too." Okay, that was a plain lie.
Dolan raised an eyebrow. "Really? Elemental magic? You don't look like the type, but in this society, no one can really tell anything from looks anymore. We'll be sure to put you into the approprate classes right away. Of course, you'll have access to the library and any other recreational activities we offer. We'll also settle you into a room. But for the meantime, you need to be shown around the school, correct? I have just the student for that. Ms. Anderson?" He called out to his secretary. "Bring Kristina in, will you?"
Within moments a girl about the age of nineteen came in. She was tall and slender, much like Dolan, but had red hair. Her blue eyes stuck out the most. She approached Dolan and nodded slightly. "Yes, father?"
Dolan stood up and walked around to place a hand on Markis' shoulder. "My dear, could you show this new student around? His name is Markis. Markis, this is my daughter, Kristina. Go on now, lad, she'll show you everything."
Kristina looked at the boy with a curious expression as she studied him. Eventually, she nodded. "Of course. Come on."
Markis stood to follow Kristina. "Lead the way." he said, silently studying the girl. He glanced back at the Headmaster. He vaguely wondered when Qwaser would show himself, but out it out of his mind. The important thing was, he was in.
