Good day, my fellow Americans. While perusing other RP forums on the Almighty Holy Land of Proboards Supports (GOT DAYUM DERE'S A LOT OF 'EM) to see why ours is flailing so badly, I came across many types of roleplaying styles that you all may want to try for future stories. These types (as classified by me) are:
0) Our Way (Loose Plot) - Strangely enough, I didn't see this too often. (we iz speshul) This is when the author has an original plot in mind with a major antagonist, factions, locations, etc. The contributors then do whatever they want as long as it falls in line with the plot in question. It's similar to the Strict Plot (below) but much more lenient.
1) Strict Plot - There is a strict plot to the story. Although slight (very slight) deviation of how something is done occurs, that something still must be done in the end. Typically occurs in fanfiction RPs where everything is set in stone and you must choose a character from the series; i.e. Harry Potter or...Twilight
2) No Plot (Open World) - There is no plot. Jump in and do whatever. This is often seen in "Nature" or "Academy" RPs where you pretend to be a wild animal or student and just go in to hunt, train, play around, have sex, etc.
3) Drama Induced Plot - This is similar to the above in which initially there is no plot, but instead a hundred subplots created by the users. Generally has no super plot, no main antagonist, nothing like that. (Kind of like Awesome Land) This often occurs in "Academy" RPs. I say this is "Drama Induced" because stories of this variety often have subplots akin to dramas and soap operas; i.e. "I HAVE NOTHING TO LIVE FOR LEMME SUICIDE OMG GUYS" or "SCHOOL BULLY IS TRYING TO KILL ME OMG GUYS" or the classic "I'M PREGNANT HELP ME OMG GUYS".
4) Game Plot - This is a type I found particularly interesting because it allows for more dynamic plot writing. In this style of RPing, you join and post as you would in any RP, but important things are taken care of via small games like "Rock Paper Scissors" and purchases are made with currency earned by posting. For example, you could buy a house for 1,000 monet that you earned through posting ten times. In this house you host a party, everyone gets drunk, someone is murdered and BAM! instant plot. The nature of this allows for interesting "War" RPs, too. For example, battles would be decided by "Rock Paper Scissors", territory could be purchased with post-money, the person in power is always changing and thus the plot never gets stale. Interesting stuff, I think.
Anyway, those are the types of RPs as organized by me. Discuss pros, cons, favorites and the like here. REMEMBER, DISCUSSION IS THE FIRST WAY TO A BETTER SITE. GOGOGOGOGO
