"It has been three hours." Zen roared. "Three hours, and I have not heard a single thing from the police. Or from you..." He slammed his fist on one of his desk buttons. "SARAH!" he shouted.
The usual clicking sound was heard, signifying that the intercom was on.
"Y-Yes, Mayor?" Sarah asked, more timid sounding than usual.
"May I ask you a question, Sarah?" Zen sighed.
"Of course, Mayor..."
"Exactly how many hours ago did I ask for the police to be sent to the Research Institute to check the scene for #134?" he asked, tapping his fingers impatiently upon his desk.
"I-it was about 3 hours ago, sir, at about 9:45 not too long after a Mr. Johnny Velazquez left. They were sent fairly soon afterward." Sarah reminded him.
"Yes. 3 hours ago. May I ask another question, Sarah?" Zen's voice was rising in intensity with every moment. Sarah thus decided to tread cautiously with her next answers.
"Yes, of c-course, Mayor." she replied.
"Have I received any response as to the status of my officers?" Zen asked, in as calm a voice as possible, scaring Sarah even more.
"N-no, sir, b-but-
"No calls?"
"No, but sir there's
"The press has not even been covering the scene? Because I certainly haven't seen anything about it on
any news station." Zen growled, glaring at the ceiling where the intercom speaker was.
Sensing this, Sarah said "P-please stop staring at me like that, sir. It's just that-
"You have 10 seconds to explain this before I have you on the streets where you belong!" Zen yelled, pounding on his desk, demanding an answer.
"Sir, I believe the entire force has been slaughtered by Malignant #134! No one has contacted you because...they're all dead." Sarah shouted as quickly as possible. "I...I wasn't sure at first, so I didn't tell you, but that's...that's the only logical explanation."
Zen sighed for a moment, hesitating, gathering his thoughts before speaking. "Dead. All of them." he repeated.
"Y-yes, sir."
"You will send the Valeshroud City Militia there immediately, as well as people from Channel 5 news to cover the entire scene." Zen commanded. The Valeshroud City Militia was the city's own personal sub-section of the state National Guard. They were trained a hundred times more than any SWAT team members or city police officers, so Zen was fairly confident that they stood a chance.
"Yes, sir. They will be sent in 5 minutes." Sarah nodded, although Zen could not see her, of course.
"You have 2." Zen growled.
"O-of course, Mayor. 2 minutes."
"And you are to keep me informed the entire time, or you are fired."
"Yes, Mayor. I will have Channel 5 broadcast the entire event live."
"Sarah. Do me a favor and..." Zen sighed. "Just have them broadcast it to my office, alright? I would rather not have the populace know about this..." Johnny's words about keeping the election in Zen's favor ran all throughout the mayor's mind.
"I-if you insist, sir...I will have all of this done immediately." Sarah said, still frightened because of Zen using his inside voice.
"Now, get out of my sight!" he finished.
"Yes sir!" Sarah replied semi-happily, pleased to hear the normal mayor again.

"ALRIGHT PEOPLE, MOVE IT! MOVE IT!" The commanding officer of the VNG, Raven Greatwood, was racing to the VMRI, he and his hundred squad members each in heavily armored vehicles.
"Boss, look at this mess!" One of the VNG soldiers in another truck was about to jump out of the vehicle when Raven cut him off instantly.
"Stay in the truck, soldier! That thing might still be out here, and I don't want to go needlessly risking any of my men!" Raven shouted to him. "I'll get out." The CO unbuckled his seat belt, opened the door and cautiously stepped outside. "My god...what happened here?" Raven walked around, noticing the bodies of a dozen police officers and SWAT team members buried in the ground. "This is...astounding..." He looked up to see Lila and Waterwalker and immediately shouted "You! Civilians! Why the hell are you in this area?!"
