I'm going to make a television series spin off of this story, called MIGHTY MORPHIN' FADED RANGERS. I can just picture it now, a bunch of teenagers with attitude serving the almighty Death at the Command Center, battling foe after foe in an attempt to destroy society, and when their foes become too strong, these teens morph into the FADED RANGERS using their special Sacrificial morphers!
God King: BWAHAHAHA FOOLISH FADED! I, ONE OF THE GOD KINGS, WON'T LET YOU DISMANTLE SOCIETY!
Steven: OH YEAH? We'll see about that. IT'S FADING TIME.
Kimberly: Aging!
Billy: Sight!
Amy: Free Will!
David: Ideals!
Johnny: Identity!
Chris: Faith!
Steven: Memories!
AND THEN THE MORPHING SEQUENCE ENDS AND EACH FADED RANGER APPEARS IN HIS/HER COSTUME AND READY WITH HIS FADED WEAPON. But watch out, because when the God King is defeated...
God King: NO! FOOLISH FADED RANGERS! WATCH! MAKE MY MONSTER GROOOOOOOW!
The God King grows to 100 feet tall! How will the Faded Rangers defeat him now? With the help of the...
Steven: We need Faded Megazord power, now!
AND THEN A BUNCH OF GIANT ROBOTS COME OUT OF THE FUCKING OCEAN AND MERGE TO KICK THE GOD KING'S ASS.

By the way, I'm ok with reconstructing the tropes

It's sort of a mix of both but mostly negative-reconstruction

Here, Ash:
Steven is of average height and build, neither muscular nor skinny. He simply is. His eyes, like those of all Faded, are a deep violet, and his hair is a light brown, which is long enough to reach in front of his eyes and cover his ears. It lies flat on his head and he has a tendency to mess it up with one hand when thinking. Steven stands tall and straight, but without confidence. A smile rarely graces his lips, and his eyes often have a far-off look to them, which appears to others as if he isn’t paying attention. His “default” pose, as it is, has his hands in his pockets.
Steven wears a loose button-up collared shirt. Only two buttons near the middle are done, the rest hangs open, revealing a white undershirt. The long sleeves of the button-up are rolled up past the elbows. His pants, while not loose, are kept up by a belt that is partially obscured by the hanging shirt. The cuffs of his pants cover most of his shoes. All in all, he has a very “I don’t care” look, as if he woke up that way and just said, “Well, ok.”
Around his neck is the bladeless hilt of his katana on a chain.

Well, they're both sort of about the inevitability of death (although I have turned Death into a bastard). I was going to suggest styling the story on the seven rooms of Prince Prospero, but there's too much to do. Maybe we just give a Gothic feel and have a scene near the end that mirrors the end of Masque.
