Good morning/evening my loyal readers and contributors to the Awesome Continuum. This is another Origin story, detailing the curse of the Beauty Mirror, one of the four Artifacts of Wisdom. I'll write the story of how it was stolen in the first place and what happens directly after this later.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Veralice, the Emperor of the glorious Awesome Land empire, panted heavily as he approached his wondrous 9002 floor tower that overlooked all that he controlled. He had been traveling by foot for a strange amount of time. He was wearing the traditional garb of Awesome Land royalty and antagonists: the hooded robe. While normally a pale and gaunt figure, he appeared a bit larger than usual. None of his citizens paid him any mind, however. He was an accomplished sorcerer and they knew that (provided the desire to do so) he could change his appearance at will. To the trained eye, however, it was clear that he was concealing something beneath his clothing.
"Piece of cake. Those fools from the Really Cool Kingdom will never know what hit them." Veralice said. The doors of his tower's first floor opened as he stepped inside. He transported himself to the 9001st floor via magic; for some reason he had been unable to do that directly from his previous destination. Once he reached the second to last floor of his domain he proceeded to the wall furthest from him. There was a wooden stand there, having been created especially for holding large elliptical objects, such as a-
"Mirror! This glorious artifact is at last mine! I have no idea what it does, but the Really Cool royal family must have had some reason for guarding it the way they did. I'd go back for those other 3 but that would be a bit too dangerous, even for the great Emperor Veralice!" Veralice chuckled before lifting one side of his robe. From it he produced the Beauty Mirror, one of the four Artifacts of Wisdom that had been sealed away in the vault of the Really Cool Kingdom.
He cautiously placed it upon the stand and gazed into it. Immediately he lost his consciousness, almost as if the mirror had placed him under a spell. He snapped out of it within a few minutes and began glaring at the mirror with anger. "What kind of magic is this? What I saw was so...beautiful." Veralice said taking a step away from the reflection. "Enough of your foolishness, Mirror. I have no idea what you just did, but if you have the power to hypnotize others like you did to me then I must use you to your full extent!" Veralice said before coming to a realization. "But...If everyone else sees what I just saw, then I will never gain full control of Awesome Land. No...They must see what I want them to see." the Emperor grinned sinisterly before drawing Hystoger, his beloved and cursed sword, from its sheathe. He thrust the blade into the floor beside him as his robe began to move as if it were being battered by the wind.
"Mirror ever beautiful, your purpose I don't know...But I will conquer the planet with whatever you may show. With your glowing surface high atop this tower, I command you now to reveal to me your power!" Veralice chanted as his left hand began to glow. He stretched it toward the mirror and began to approach it cautiously; he was still unsure of the powers the mirror might have. With his index finger he lightly touched the center of the mirror. Like a pool of water the mirror's surface seemed to distort with his touch. The distortion continued as the frame around the mirror slowly faded to black and the crystal clear surface was poisoned by Veralice's magic.
A blinding light emerged from the mirror, enveloping the entire room. Veralice shielded himself from the light, uncovering himself once he was certain it had cleared. What he saw then was astounding; the once beautiful mirror that had resided in the Kingdom of Really Cool was now twisted; the frame around it was a ghastly wooden one with grotesque images carved into it, but what truly shocked Veralice was the image of the mirror itself.
He saw himself doing what he had done just seconds prior. His reflection showed him touching the mirror and corrupting it. Soon the image faded and the mirror showed him seeing his exiting the tower and going to McJimmy's fast food restaurant to confront the owner. Veralice quickly realized that the mirror was showing him whatever he wanted himself to see.
"Marvelous...Simply marvelous." Veralice laughed. "So you'll show me whatever I want? Without hypnotizing me? How about for other people?" Veralice questioned. Instantaneously he had summoned one of his citizens to the castle.
"You, boy, gaze into this mirror." Veralice commanded. The boy did not hesitate, fearing the Emperor's wrath if he did otherwise. "Tell me what you see."
"I...I see me...But I have piles of money and...a new car." the boy gazed into the mirror more, relishing in the reflection he saw before him.
Interesting. Now, mirror, show him another image. A sinister one, perhaps...His family perishing at the hands of a-
"AH!" the boy screamed, falling upon the floor and backing away from the mirror while in the fetal position.
"What did you see, boy?" Veralice demanded, having a slight suspicion that his plan had worked.
"I...A dragon...a huge one...Came and burned alive my...my..." the boy began to cry so much that his words were unintelligible.
"Thank you. You are free to go." Veralice sent the child back to his family and laughed maniacally. "It works! This mirror will show what I want to be shown! Now I can finally confront that accursed McJimmy and coerce him into giving me that restaurant. Then...Hahaha...All of Awesome Land will be mine!" Veralice laughed hysterically as he sealed the mirror away in an alternate dimension for safe keeping. He retired to his desk and took notes on everything he had done for the day, preparing to secure his empire once and for all...
