Clara lept over the axe swing with ease, landing on the table, which tilted under the unbalanced weight. Instead of leaning back, she thrust herself forward and rolled forward, away from the dwarf. She swore under her breath at the wasted shot, now embedded somewhere in the floorboards. She decided against another shot and holstered the firearm, drawing the short sword.
"Come on, then!"
~~~~~
Matt followed Andraerl's gaze. "Hey, that's that girl from earlier. wh is she fighting a dwarf? do you know them?"
~~~~~
Miadabel Mordath looked up slowly, recognizing that voice. "Kazamir." He folded his hands, an tight-lipped smile across his face. "It hasn't been long enough. What do you need this time?" He made no secret of the fact that he didn't like Kazamir. The Lich was..unsettling to say the least.
But he did enjoy his gold, and that was what mattered.

Not wasting any time, Khelor leapt over the table, clearing it with ease. He landed only a few feet away from Clara, and took another swing.

Andrael shook his head. “No,” he said, “I've never seen them before. But if they keep that up, they're going to attract some unwanted attention from patrolling guards.”
Cale approached Enieyla and asked, “So, why are you just standing there? Shouldn't you be helping your friend or something?”
“He can handle himself.” She said without looking at him. But the dwarf did need to wrap this up. Getting in trouble with the local authorities would delay their hunt for the gem, and could give someone else a headstart. With such a high reward at stake, this was an opportunity Enieyla was NOT about to pass up.

Kazamir stared at the gnome for a long moment. He would admit that he wasn't surprised to see that Mordath was less than pleased to see him. He wasn't exactly a welcoming type of person. Ah well, he didn't actually care too much.
"I need repair work on my guns" he said simply. "And not a quick fix. I plan on leaving the city for a while. Try not to be too pleased." he withdrew his guns from their holsters and laid them across the desk.

Mordath gingerly took one of the pistols with both hands. "I'll make sure to contain my sorrow," he deadpanned. "Yes, they've seen quite the wear...been busy have we?" He didn't wait for an answer; he didn't really want to know.
"Come back tomorrow morning at dawn. My apprentice is working on a project for another customer, but he'll be asleep then. The usual rate still applies."
He moved the guns from the desk to a cart that he could roll to his workshop. "This have anything to do with that royal quest?"
~~~~~
Clara ducked the swing, and brought her short sword to the dwarf's throat. "Yield," she said."
~~~~~
Matt sighed. "I should probably get back to work. It was nice meeting you, Cale, but Master Mordath with have my hands if I start slacking off."

The darkskinned innkeeper looked up from the bar, as Abbie entered the small tavern.
"What can I get you?" the keeper asked, her tone unamused and easy.
Abbie looked around at the few patrons hunching around their ales and decided to order quickly, lest she get unwanted attention.
"A friend said I could get good food and drink here." Abbie replied.
"What's his name?" the 'keeper, Jamella, asked. Abbie was slightly taken aback at her bluntness, but shook it off.
"Chelkar." she told Jamella. A spark of interest flashed through the 'keeper's eyes, the first since Abbie had entered.
"So, Eugan's recruiting again, is he?" Jamella murmured softly, as she turned to get some meat and drink for this girl.
"Take whatever seat you want, dear." Jamella said a little louder, directing this at Abbie. Abbie nodded, moving towards a shadowed corner booth that gave her a clear view of the room. A couple minutes later, Jamella approached with a small platter of meat, tubers, and a flagon of something. She set down the platter and sat down herself, eyeing Abbie with hooded curiosity.
Abbie ignored the odd innkeeper and got to eating, but eventually she had finished and had to respond to this clear interest.
"So, why'd Chelkar take you along, girl?"
Abbie stiffened.
"I don't know what you're talking about." she answered rigidly, refusing to meet eyes with this increasingly weird tavern-owner.
"Chelkar doesn't help just anyone, girl. So why you?"

Khelor stood motionless for a moment, his eyes focused on the half-orc's sword, and his won reflection staring back at him. After a few seconds had passed, the dwarf broke out laughing and lowered his weapon.
“I see that I underestimated ye, lass!” he exclaimed enthusiastically, “Your style could use a bit of refinin', but ya got more fight in ye than most men I've faced. Lets hope I never have to go at ye full force, for that would be a battle of the ages!” With that said, he backed away from Clara's weapon and left the tavern, climbing out of the same window through which he entered.
“Are you quite finished?” Enieyla asked impatiently.
“Aye,” was the dwarf's response.
“Well then,” the elf said in a commanding tone, “Let's find an inn for the night. One we didn't just half-destroy,” she added with a hint of annoyance. “We can plan out how we'll go about finding the Gem, and in the morning we can get started.” Khelor just nodded in agreement. While he liked to think that he was the one in charge here, he usually didn't try to argue with Enieyla. Even though she was a druid, her temper could flare up like that of a dwarf, though she showed it in different ways. The two began to walk toward one of Cimanor's many, non-damaged inns.
“Hold on!” Cale yelled suddenly, and he ran after them. “Did you say that you were going after the Gem?”
“We may have,” Khelor stated. He then asked with one of his thick, red eyebrows raised, “What significance might that be havin' to a lad such as yourself?”
Cale hesitated for a moment, then spoke in a softer voice than before, “I... well... I've always wanted to go on an adventure. I want to see the world, and all the people and places it has to offer.” Addressing Enieyla he added, “I wasn't really able to thank you properly earlier. If I assist you on your journey, I think that may suffice.”
Neither the dwarf said anything for a few seconds. Khelor stared at Cale as if the boy had just slapped him in the face, and Enieyla merely watched him with her usual, indifferent expression, her gaze seeming to look through him. Khelor was the first to speak.
“Are ye daft? You want us to bring ya along on a journey across the continent in search of treasure? You'd be more of a burden than anythin' else! And whatever ya may say about thankin' us now, in the end ya'd be beggin' us for a slice of the trea-”
“Fine.” Enieyla said, her tone flat.
“WHAT?!” Khelor was practically screaming, and his face was slowly turning a reddish color. “Have ye gone mad, girl? By Fundur's beard, I have never heard such stupi-” he caught off his sentence abruptly when the druid shot him an icy glare. After that, he just looked at the cobblestone street upon which he stood and grumbled.
“Hold on a second,” Andrael said as he appeared next to his brother. “Have you forgotten about your duties to your family? The war in the East is still raging, and taxes are being increased nearly every month. We need you working, not chasing some fairy tale.”
“Brother, have you seen the reward for this Gem? Neither we nor our parents would ever have to work again! And with the ability to end the war firmly within Balaeruid's grasp, the high taxes would no longer be needed!”

Matt ducked back inside to the workshop. A quick peak through the window of Mordath's office revealed that he was still speaking with the strange client. Not wishing to invoke the gnome's wrath, Matt set to work on repairing Clara's firearms. If he wanted to have them done on time, he might have to work through the night.
But it was worth it...

Clara returned to her seat and continued to brood.

A few hours passed. Cale and Andrael sat on opposite beds in an inn a good distance from Mordath's shop, as all of the ones closer to the area refused them after hearing of a brawl between a dwarf and a half-orc. Separated from them by one room were Khelor and Enieyla.
The Efrun brothers sat in silence for several minutes before the elder of the two sighed and shook his head. “Brother,” he began, “Have you lost your mind? Our parents struggle to pay off the kingdom's taxes while still being able to put food on the table, and you're wanting to go on a treasure hunt with a dwarf and an elf, for some mythical gem that probably doesn't exist? Is it because of foolish pursuits such as these that you have yet to send home so much as a copper piece?”
Without meeting his brother's eyes, Cale replied, “It's hard to find work in the city, especially for a man from a farming village. The jobs available here are for people to work on these new machines, and those are mostly being taken by immigrants from Losigin. Besides, if the gem didn't exist, why would the king offer so much for it?”
“Fine, then,” Andrael growled, “Go on this idiotic quest of yours. It's not like you could be making less money than you already are. Just know that if you go, I'll be coming with you. I'm not going to return to tell our parents that I just let you run off to get yourself killed after they sent me here to find out why you hadn't sent back any money after being gone for so long.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“So,” Khelor spoke angrily in the next room over, “tell me again, WHY exactly are we letting this human, barely old enough to be considered a man, dumb enough that he goes about runnin' into doors come with us?”
Eniyla, who stood in a corner of the room with her eyes closed, replied, “I sense something about him that is different from most humans. He has an aura unlike most I have felt before. I wish to find out more about it.”
