Yesterday, my dad's company had a Christmas Party. At this party, they had a raffle where you could win lots of prices. The company hasn't been doing well, and lots of people have been laid off, so everyone was hoping to win something. One of the biggest prizes was this really nice plasma TV with surround sound speakers. Probably the best of the best. A lot of people put in a raffle for this including my dad, but the winner ended up being something unexpected. The anouncer called out the name Scottish Wright (or Right or whatever, I don't know the exact spelling). No one responded. They called out the name again, but still no one responded. That was when people realized it was the name of a childrens hospital. But this is no ordinary hospital. This is a hospital for very ill children. A lot of them usually die, so someone had put the name in of the hospital so that they would win the TV. The anouncer called out for whoever put in the name so that they could be recognized. At first no one stood up, but a little later someone in the back raised their hand. I think it was a CEO or VP of some branch of the company, but he went up and people could tell he was teary eyed. You knew that he had a child, niece, nephew, grandchild, or some relative in that hospital. Everyone in the audience started crying, some of them almost balling. They were all glad that their name hadn't been picked and that it had been the childrens' hospital that won.

What a disgusting notion! All glad because their names hadn't been called? Preposterous! They would all rather donate a television to a center where anyone who would watch it is bound to die in a matter of days as opposed to keeping it for themselves? Ha! Touching as the story might be, it's ridiculous and implausible! And why didn't this executive who won the television for the hospital just use the no doubt large sum of money he has to buy a dozen televisions for the hospital, rather than entering the raffle to deprive everyone else of their chance? This story makes me sick!

Not VP as in super rich. He's just in charge of one small department in the business. He's head of something. I don't remember what.

Vice Presidents are still Vice Presidents and make more than enough money to afford X amount of TVs. AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND TYLER'S THREE WORDS.

The company hasn't been doing well, and lots of people have been laid off. That's why. The company isn't doing as well as it used to, so salaries have been cut, and he only makes a little more than an average person.

If the company's doing so poorly that a Vice President is barely making more money than an average worker, then the last thing they should be doing is giving away free stuff, wouldn't you agree?

Yeah, the reason my dad was talking about it so much was that hundreds of people put in their names for that, and that hospital just happened to be drawn.

Perhaps the money they spent on this extravagant TV could have been directly donated to the hospital for research purposes instead of on a device that will be used more by the doctors there than anyone else.

You people disgust me. Here I am, the most immoral person on the face of the planet, and yet i side with Nicole on this. Here's why. You people have no idea how fucking hard it is to run a business. Every damn penny has to be used and invested wisely. Profits are hard to come by these day and plasma TV's are fucking expensive. Small businesses are lucky to make a profit of $100! Hell, LDD, the architecture firm my father works for, only makes a profit of $20,000 every year, granted this is after paying everyone. So the notion of a semi-small, failing business giving away a rather expensive electrical appliance to a hospital filled with potential corpses is rather heartbreaking.
Fucking Scrooges the lot of ya...

Foolish business practices are foolish business practices, no matter the motive. Call me a Scrooge, but I'm looking at this story from El Realist point of view.

If being myself entails appearing as a "teenager Internet tough guy", so be it. My ideas about the story still stand.
