While sitting alone in a small corner within The Ballistic as the ship sailed ever closer to the far off land of Roewekt, Calefrun the salamander- salamanders being a race of lizard-men inhabiting the world of Trisula- had a chance to think for the first time in months. In just thee years, he had gone from being a normal salamander (albeit an abnormally tall one, standing at five feet while the average for their race was three) to being a fugitive, having escaped his homeland of Oyeigar to hunt down a man who had stolen a magical gem, all in an attempt to repent for his hundreds of thousands of murders. He closed his eyes and, listening to the sounds of creaking boards and splashing waves, thought back to the beginning of this whole mess. He thought back to the day he made that fatal error which led to the death of hundreds of thousands of salamanders.
It had been a bright and sunny day if he recalled correctly, and a younger Calefrun was taking a walk through his home town of Molgar, which was located near the eastern coast of Bellestfon- the continent upon which Oyeigar was located. Accompanying him were his only two friends, Crysmong and HOODAN. Together, the trio moved onward, the sun reflecting off of their dark green scales and their large tails dragging along on the dirt road behind them. Calefrun ignored the looks he was getting from other salamanders they passed. He knew that he was a freak because of his height, and the fact had stopped bothering him years ago.
The three friends entered the market area, and Calefrun immediately spotted a familiar face over the heads of many other salamanders. It was that of Tsune, the she-salamander who sold fresh prey at her stall here. She was one of the few people- and the only female- who didn't react to him with disgust, and upon seeing him she offered a friendly smile before returning her attention to her current customer. Maybe I shall make her my mate someday, he mused.
The trio continued onward through the market, and as they walked the crowd of salamanders parted before them as though they thought Calefrun's strangeness to be some sort of disease they might catch if he came to close to them. That was fine by him, as otherwise he and his friends would have to force their way through the dense crowd, which would have been a massive pain.
As it were he was content on that day, until that voice called out to him. Even in the present Calefrun could still hear it as clearly as though the salamander whom the voice belonged to stood right next to him. This was because of the fact that from the moment the sentence began to be uttered, his life had entered the downward spiral that led to his current situation.
