Edelmira screamed and looked back at her room. "There's someone there!"
Just then, the sound of metal was heard. The guards were running up the stairs to answer her calling. They burst through the doors and saw the princess being carried away. "He's got the Princess! Go!"
The guards immediately unsheathed their swords and ran after them.

"No you arseholes! Not me, him!" Vensik called back. "Why won't they...? You tell them!" He still was carrying the Princess.
~~~~~~
Sceltier walked casually down the hall. He saw the guards chasing Vensik turn a corner. He let one arrow fly, guiding it around the corner, and into the guard's throat. Then another.
You're next, Vensik.
Edelmira screamed as two of the guards fell, but the others kept coming. "Guards! Hault! There's someone behind you!"
The guards stopped, and half of them turned around. The other half continued to follow the princess. They weren't going to let her out of their sight. The guards that had turned around saw the man not far down the hallway. They immediately stopped and held up their sheild. "Hault! You shall not go any further!"
Sceltier ginned smugly. He began to whistle. It started low, then went higher, beyond any human range. The guards clutched their ears and fell to the ground screaming. Sceltier kept at it, never breaking a sweat, until blood began to pool around their heads. Finally, they stopped squirming. He kicked one of the guards. Dead.
~~~~~~~~
"Are they gonna kill me now?" Vensik asked the Princess?

She watched the guards following her. "Not if I explain things. They're just worried." Then she heard the screaming.
The guards looked back and saw the pool of blood at the other end of the hall. They glanced back at the princess, who was still being carried away, and debated on turning back. The leader of the group looked them over, finding that the princess seemed more frightened of what was behind them then the fact that she was being taken. Reluctantly, he ordered for them to turned back. He gave Vensik a stern look before turning to follow.

Like any rational human being Versai was scared out of his mind. "Black Monks! Defend the cathedral!" If any building were to be sacked, the cathedral would be a prime target.
~~~~~
The hall ended in a great stained-glass window. "Damn." Vensik threw up a Barrier around him and Edelmira before leaping out it. He and the Princess landed in a heap outside, two stories down, surrounded by broken glass.
"Hey, we're alive."
Edelmira stared back up at the castle, her shoulders rising up and down as she breathed. How could this possibly happen? She only strolled through the town. Why would this happen to her? At least I'm alive.
She pulled on a chain that hung around her neck. The end of it went down her dress and kept it out of sight. On the chain was a silver, engraved key. The end of it was shaped like a little heart, and ivy patterns wrapped around it. It was the key her mother had given her. It must have saved them. But the troubles were not over. There were guards who had died inside, and the servants and noblemen inside would be in danger. Plus, her father may be in danger. "I must go to the church...with Father Versai. Yes, I must seek safety there and send word to my father!"
She immediately got up and began running to the cathedral entrance.
"Wait! Don't... damnit!" Vensik pushed himself up and raced after her.
~~~~~~~~~
Sceltier dropped the last of the guards in the pile of corpses that had accumulated in the hall, wiping the blood on the wall. "Oh Vensik," he whispered, "Where are you..." the wind carried a sound to his ear.
"...seek safety there and send word to my father!"
He frowned. "Where are you running off to?"
Wait, don't... damnit!"
~~~~~
Versai sat huddled in the corner. "We're being bloody invaded! Who or what is responsible for this!?"
Just then he heard someone tapping on the door. Using his ultra super powers he reconized it as Edelmira's he let her in. Along with some other guy.
King Adalric pulled the reins tight as his horse walked across an old bridge. His entourage of guards and servants followed behind him, but there weren't many. They weren't neccessary. The meeting had gone well, and the arrangements had been made. Prince Dameon Donahue and Princess Edelmira Adelirc were arranged to be married. Not only would it stop the war, but it would expand the kingdom. Everything seemed to be going according to plan...except the prince. King Adalric still remembered the flash of irritation in his eyes when he saw him, but when his father had mentioned the wedding he seemed emotionless. His expression remained calm and curtious as before, but King Adalric thought he had seen something in his eyes. He didn't like what he had seen.
He pulled out a small, golden pocket watch that hung from a chain on his coat. He opened it to reveal a small painting of his wife on the opposite side of the clock. Oh, Elise, what do I do? I'm sure that nothing will go wrong, but the thought of our daughter marrying him seems.....Well, it's what you would have wanted. You've been dreaming of her wedding day ever since you gave her that key.
The King looked ahead at the pathway leading back to his kingdom.
-----------------------------------------
"Father Versai!" She ran inside and shut the doors behind them. "The castle is being invaded! We have to send word to my father! He must be on his way home!"
"Shut up!" Vensik hissed. "He'll hear us. Sceltier an hear the softest whisper from a mile away if he felt like it. He waited a moment.
"Stay here, I'll try and lure him away. If I don't come back, don't worry." Then he was gone.
~~~~~
"We're being invaded? I would have never guessed! But sarcasm aside I have already sent a messenger to your father. Now if you will excuse me, i shall go and pray to the god of protection, Billeigh Mies."
~~~~~
"I'm here, Sceltier! Come on!" A single arrow whizzed past his head. He ducked instinctively.
"Come on now, Vensik. You know that if I really wanted to kill you, I would have." Sceltier materialized out of the gloom. (Its night, I guess?) "Where is she?"
"I killed her." Vensik said defiantly.
Sceltier chuckled softly. Then Vensik was slammed into the wall, Sceltier clutching at his throat. "Don't fuck with me, boy! If you had actually killed her, I wouldn't be here!"
"Bullshit!" Vensik spat. "You would have killed me anyway, just to get the credit!"
"That hurt, Vensik," Sceltier said with much sarcasm. "I thought we where PALS. I would never hurt my PAL, much less KILL him." He squeezed tighter; Vensik could no longer reply. As his face started to turn blue, Sceltier tossed him aside. Vensik fell limply, gasping for air. Sceltier strung an arrow and placed to the other's head. "Now I'll ask you again: Where is she?"
"Go to hell!"
The arrow shot from its rest, but never reached Vensik's head. Instead, it stopped in midair. He extended the Barrier, throwing the archer back, but not down. Vensik got to his feet quickly and threw another Barrier at Sceltier. A lone arrow impacted it halfway, and the Barrier shattered, but the arrow kept on sailing. Vensik had to put up a second Barrier to stop it. Two inches from his head.
Way too close.
Edelmira watched him go and sighed to herself. She sat in one of the pews and looked up at the altar in front of her. She folded her hands and bowed her head, praying. It was all she could do for now. Mother? Can you hear me? I hope you can. I need your help.
-------------------------------------------------
King Adalric pulled hard on the reins to hault his horse. He held up his hand to signal to the others to stop. Another man on a horse was riding up to them. He wore the clothes of a messenger.
"You're tiring." Sceltier pointed out.
"Am not." Vensik argued.
"Child."
"Bastard."
Sceltier grimaced. Vensik tensed. In a split second, Vensik drew his bö and leaped at Sceltier, who strung tow arrows and fired them off. They ricocheted off a Barrier. Vensik brought the staff down, slamming the ground where Sceltier had just been. The impact created a small crater in the ground. Sceltier recovered his balance and shot three more arrows in rapid succession. Vensik threw a Barrier at him, kicking up dust and deflecting the arrows.
When it settled. He was gone.
Sceltier sighed. "Always running."
The messenger climbed off of his horse and ran up to the king. He quickly bowed and gave his message. "Sire! Sire! I bring to you a message from Father Versai! The castle is being invaded. Many guards are already dead. They need help at once!"
The king's expression grew feirce. "And what of Princess Edelmira?"
The messenger looked up at the king with a sorrowful expression. "She was taken from her room, sir, but that's just a rumor I heard...."
The king's eyes widened, and he turned his horse to face his men. They were among the greatest knights in his army. "Men! We must ride with speed to protect the castle and capture these invadors! If you find my daughter, kill her kidnapper and take her away to safety! Now, CHARGE!"
They all rode off towards the town of Elpida.
-------------------------
The sound of metal clashing echoed throughout the courtyard as the two swords met. One scraped against the other, sending it back. The man weilding the sword staggered back, but he immediately regained his composure and tightened his grip. He lunged at his foe with a fatal blow, but it was blocked with ease. The man was astonished and tried to push against him, but his opponent was strong. He was trapped, staring at the malicious grin on the foe's face. His black hair hung in his eyes which were glowing with intensity. Prince Dameon pushed against the man and quickly spun around him to catch hi wrist and twist his arm behind his back.
The man was imobilized, and the prince brought his sword up to the man's throat. The man dropped the sword, and Dameon leaned in to whisper in the man's ear. "You've failed."
The prince released his grip and let the man go. He walked over to a small bench and placed his sword on it, grabbing a cup of wine from a tray nearby. The man was still standing in the middle of the courtyard. "Sire, you've become stronger than I ever thought you would. You have finally beaten the teacher. I'm very proud of you."
Dameon sipped his wine and faced away from the man. "Are you still here? I told you, you've failed. Your job was to teach me great swordsman skills. You have taught me all you know and more, and I have managed to beat you with the skill you've taught me. This makes me doubt that you even had the skill to teach me. If a great swordsman can be beaten by his student, than he isn't fit to teach. Get out."
The man was bewildered. "But, sire, I've taught you since you were a boy."
Dameon immediately spun around and threw his wine across the courtyard, soaking the swordsman. "Get out!"
The man turned around and left. Another man came up to Dameon after that. He was a servent, Prince Dameon's right hand man. Dameon was running a cloth along the blade of his sword, cleaning it. "You've sent them?"
The servant nodded. "Both of them."
"And you've given the orders for them to take the artifact from her corpse?"
"Yes, sire. They will bring it back to you."
"Good"
"So, he ran?"
"Yes, Arshax. He ran." Sceltier joined his colleague on the rooftops of the city. He slumped against a chimney as she leaned on her large tessen fan. Her mouth curved in a half smile.
"Typical."
Sceltier nodded.
"What do we do now?"
"Wait."
"I want my money, Sceltier."
"You'll get your money, Arshax. But we have to do our job first."
He locked eyes with her, daring her to say something against him. She stared defiantly back, but kept quiet.
"He'll go back to them. Protect them."
"He's weak."
"Yes, but he will lead us to our real prize."
Arshax giggled sadistically.
~~~~~~~~
Vensik appeared in the cathedral, seemingly from nowhere.
"I think I've lost him," he said as he collapsed on the floor.

Edelmira jumped as her prayer was interupted. She turned and saw Vensik collapse in the middle of the aisle. She quickly picked herself up and knelt beside him. She shook his shoulder. "Hey! Please, wake up!"

Vensik jolted awake, sprang to his feet and brandished the bö, pointing it right at the knight. His eyes danced from Edelmira pleading look to Father Versai. He lowered the staff.
"Sorry."
