Edelmira thought for a moment. She wasn't planning on leaving the Cathedral. She felt safe inside. "I...I was hoping to wait for my father to come back. He'll know what to do."

Vensik snorted. "How long do ya think that'll be" He leaned against the wall.

Just then, the sound of horses galloping could be heard. The King had arrived with his best knights. He haulted in the center of Elpida and called to his men. "Half of you, search for my daughter. The other half will come to the castle with me! CHARGE!"
The men split up and charged towards the castle. The men who were in the search party scattered and began slamming doors open and searching households from head to toe. They were ordered to find her, take her, and kill anyone responsible.

"He doesn't sound like he might forgive then, eh?" Vensik chuckled nervously.

Edelmira peeked outside the Cathedral doors. All the knights were far off, and her father was heading towards the castle. She knew that if the knights came here, they might kill the boy. "I'll go out after them. They'll recognize me and keep me safe, and you can have time to escape. They'll never know it was you."

Vensik almost agreed. "...But they'll keep coming after you, Sceltier and his lot. Ordinary soldiers won't protect you, as you saw. They are born killers, just like..." he faltered. "Just like me." he finished in a whisper.

Edelmira turned away from the doors and went to the head of the alter, sitting on the top step as she spread out the folds of her dress. "Then I'll stay here and wait to see what happens. The knights will find me eventually, you know. And knowing my father, he's probably ordered the death of anyone near me."
She placed her elbows on her knees and propped her head up with her hands. Her key swung down from her neck and clanked against the beads on her dress.
