I noticed this a while ago, and forgot about it, but the recent release of Starcraft II made me remember.
Both games have three main factions:
Humans, the hive minded alien (The Flood, the Zerg Swarm) and both have a theocratic alien society (the Covenant, and the Protoss)
In both games human marines are in armored battle suits.
Also, both alien theocracies worship or revere and extinct alien race that more powerful than all three combined (the Forerunners and the Xel'Nage)
Am I just making connections where there aren't any, or did you notice this, too?

I don't play Halo. So it's brand-freaking new to me AND I came to this on my own...which means it was pretty obvious.

Arbiter, Scarab, etc etc
