OK so I'm at church yesterday and this girl in the youth group goes on an Anti-Obama rant about health care. Now I'm the oldest youth in the room and she is like 14. After the rant the youth leader looks at me because he knows I want to go off on her, because it is obvious that she has no idea about how politics work and just repeats what she hears. So I'm about to off at her for that but then I decide to let it go because were at church. When the youth group got together later that night she starts it up again. The youth leader looks at me again to make sure I don't blow up at her again. Yet again I say nothing because we're in youth.
Did I go the right thing? I mean I can understand not liking the President for actual reasons such as gulf coast oil spill, issues with his war agenda, but in my mind you cannot dislike him because of what other people said.

That depends. What did she say? How do you know she was only repeating what she heard?
Not sticking up for her, just asking.
P.S. It was good that you held your tongue in church.

Yes, it is commendable that you didn't go about giving black people a bad worse name by acting like a fool in church, but if you were absolutely certain that she was merely repeating what she heard from others then a casual debate should have been fine. To me it sounds like she was just ignorant about politics in general (as 14 year olds and below typically are), so a friendly explanation about what Obama actually does and correction of her points would have done nicely.

I think that next time she starts up, you need to rectify her in a respectful manner. If she starts up again after that, slap the bitch.

She's only 14, so it's ok to just let it go. Kids say stupid things, like we probably did, and it's best to just let her figure it out when she's older.

. To me it sounds like she was just ignorant about politics in general (as 14 year olds and below typically are) I have seen/heard plenty of adults go on political rants about which they do not completely understand. an Idiot is an Idiot no matter how old they are.

That costume...it was the most difficult thing to wear EVER! It took me about a minute just to figure out how to sit down. This year I'm going full blown 80's.
