This is the same story I uploaded long ago but the title has changed. From now on, unless the title is too long, put "Awesome Land Origins:" in the title if the story involves the history of Awesome Land. If the title is too long, put "AL Origins:" or "ALO:" instead.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I plan on posting a series of stories that will, overtime, explain many of Awesome Land's more mysterious features, such as Leon's Corruption, the cursing of Raphael and Queen Crider, and eventually Awesome Land's creation itself. The history is something I don't want to post too much of since it may spoil future plot lines for the Interactive Story itself, but I figure small peaks into its background won't hurt and may give you a a deeper understanding and appreciation for it. So, without further ado, I present to you the Sealing of Hystoger. It takes place after the blade's creation, which is something I won't post yet due to aforementioned spoiling.
Basic background information you need to know for this story is: Awesome Land had no government until Veralice came along. This story takes place many centuries prior to Awesome Land I. Awesome Land had two unique and powerful blades: Excalibob and Hystoger, one to be used for good and the other for evil. They originally sat side by side in the center of a forest. Until...
"Xenith...Xenith, wake up!" came the distant yet familiar voice of a young girl, perhaps 12 years of age. A man awoke from his small but comparatively large(to the other houses around) house to the sound of the girls house. His eyes saw the girl, approximately 5 feet or so in height and with straight blonde hair that fell to her waist. Her eyes were large and blue, almost welling with tears.
"What do you want, Lunesce?" Xenith commanded. Good natured as he was, he had little patience after being so rudely awakened. He was a man of imposing stature, despite his slightly average physique. He was taller than most in the area, several inches past 6 feet. His shoulders were neither broad nor narrow, but somewhere in the middle. His hair was short, spiky and brown, his eyes narrow but visible. What would normally be a smile on his face was a mixture of contempt and concern. Despite his relatively normal features, he was well respected amongst the other villagers and struck fear into young Lunesce.
"S-S-Sorry, sir." Lunesce bowed, not wanting to incur his anger. Her stuttering betrayed her expression, an expression bent on staying calm. "X-Xenith." she said, pointing toward the nearest window. Clouds swirled around outside, the sky growing darker as it neared the forest. "The...The clouds are swirling." Lunesce replied, clearly frightened by the phenomenon.
"Lunesce, calm down." Xenith patted her on the head; had it not been for the hard wooden floor they stood on she would have been sent straight through the ground. "Everything is fine. A storm is probably approaching." Xenith said. Considering the time period, modern technology such as those meteorologists use did not exist, but Xenith's predictions were usually correct, attributing to his fame around the village. 'Usually' always leaves room for exception...
Lightning struck outside the entrance to the village's local forest, startling several crows nearby.
"Xenith, please!" Lunesce screamed, grasping Xenith's arm in a valiant attempt to pull him outside of his house's door.
"Lunesce, enough!" Xenith threw Lunesce's arm off, this time sending her to the ground. More tears welled up in her eyes as she rose from the ground, dusting herself off.
"Xenith, you must!" Lunesce emphasized the last word. She gathered all of her strength and began focusing on Xenith. She repeated, this time with a stronger voice "You must!" before pushing him, sending him crashing through the doorway. Rain began to pour, keeping Xenith from falling unconscious. Angry as he was, he admired her determination and resolved to humor her.
"Fine, Lunesce. What do you want me-
"RUN!"
"GET OUT"
"AAAAAAAH!"
People ran past Xenith and Lunesce out of fear, startled by lightning. Xenith recognized some of the faces of the escaping crowd and said "Aren't those the people that live closest to the forest?" He grew suspicious and began to believe that Lunesce's claims of trouble were true. "Come, Lunesce. If there is trouble in the forest, then we are to report there immediately. As you are the village's messenger, I would appreciate you tagging along and chronicling what may happen." Xenith laughed, concealing his worry of the forest.
Lunesce and Xenith ran off in the direction of the forest, lightning striking the ground around them. "Xenith?" Lunesce asked, trembling as they ran. "Yes?" Xenith asked, shielding his head with his forearm to prevent his sight disappearing into the rain. "Does this lightning seem to be...trying to hit us?" she concluded. Indeed the lightning seemed to strike unusually close to them, usually missing them by no more than a foot. Xenith had noticed and had felt the heat generated from the bolts, but tried not to bring it up so as to keep his companion in a calm state.
"I'm sure it's just your imagination, Lunesce." Xenith replied, always one to keep his composure. As he finished the sentence the pair stopped in front of the forest, guarded by a young man, roughly 20 years of age. He wore normal clothes and wielded a lightweight spear. His back was toward them as he stared at the forest before collapsing onto the ground. Xenith crouched down and felt the man's neck. His pulse was faint and he was barely breathing. His body trembled as if he had been submerged in icy water. A small shock transferred from the man to Xenith, prompting his withdrawal of his hand.
"Is he...?" Lunesce was too frightened to mention death. It was a rare occurence in the village outside of old age; thus she was not used to it. "No, no. He looks as if he has-"
Xenith tackled Lunesce, sending both of them to the ground. Lightning struck the spot Lunesce had been seconds before. "-been struck by lightning." Xenith concluded, unfazed by the event. His eternally calm demeanor was another of his claims to fame. "He's lucky to have survived." he said, knowing the severity of being struck by the wrath of heaven itself. "Th-thank you." Lunesce stuttered as they continued to run into the forest past the guard. As they entered the lightning subsided, as if it wanted them to enter.
Their run slowly became a walk, declining into a stroll and meander as their caution grew. As they approached the heart of the forest, the trees around them became more and more grotesque, withering and twisting into deformed shapes of the trees before them. The heart of the forest itself blocked with a crude stone door, placed there by Xenith and the other respected members of the village at the request of a village elder, descendant of some of Awesome Land's original citizens. The sight sent a chill through Xenith's spine.
"Xenith...The door...it's..." Lunesce's eyes' teared up more; the door's image was dreadful, more startling than the unconscious man they had seen before. The stone door, originally engraved with the village emblem, had a hole burned right through where the insignia had been originally. It appeared that someone had tried to cover the hole with the head of a dead rabbit, the animal which had long been the symbol of their village for its innocence and prosperity among the other creatures.
"I know, Lunesce..." Xenith vowed to bury the rabbit under his breath. "The man who did this will pay dearly for this." Xenith's demeanor cracked as his anger was clearly displayed. He slammed his fist against the door, cracking the stone slightly. "Come, Lunesce. We have to find the fiend who would dare do this." Xenith picked up the rabbit's head and gently set it down next to a tree, uncovering the hole that lead to the heart of the forest. Xenith climbed through the small hole, Lunesce following him.
When they made it through the hole, they instinctively looked above them. The lightning seemed to have stopped completely and a ray of light could be seen from the center of the sky, pouring down upon...an empty spot. The pair ran to the spot, noticing something was amiss.
"Xenith...Shouldn't the sword..." Lunesce's tears and stuttering seemed to have stopped with the lightning, and anger from the previous mortified rabbit lingeredd in her body. "Yes, where is the Blade of Legend?" Xenith asked himself. He turned around and noticed that another sword stood there plunged into the ground. "The Cursed Blade...It still stands there. What kind of evil man would take our sword?" Xenith questioned, unaware that the answer was above them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"'What kind of man?' indeed." laughed a voice from above. The most twisted of the deformed trees sat in the heart of the forest, and upon one of these trees sat a man clad in a long coat, head above his knees peering down at Lunesce and Xenith. He had a large hat and sunglasses on, obscuring his face from sight.
"You! Who are you?" Xenith asked, stepping in front of Lunesce. His natural protective instinct kicked in as he stared at the figure on top of the tree.
The man swiftly jumped down, revealing his height to be just slightly shorter than Xenith, much sleeker yet equally imposing. The man lifted his hands, one cloaked in a black, tattered, glove made of a ribbon like material and the other in a red glove of the same material. It appeared as if he was in a pose of submission. "Believe me, taking the sword was no easy task." The man's voice was deep and soothing, almost hypnotic. His mouth, however, was covered by the collar of his long black trenchcoat, giving his voice a soft volume. He removed the red glove from his right hand and revealed what appeared to be a huge scar caused by a very severe burn mark.
"Where is the blade?" Xenith demanded, already growing tired of the man. "How impatient. The great Xenith I knew would never raise his voice so easily." said the man, lowering his arms to his side. "Where is the-" Xenith began before taking in what the man had said. "The Xenith you...knew?" he repeated the words the man he said. Lunesce stayed behind Xenith, confused with the spectacle. She remained silent so as to avoid the conflict.
"Hmm, the blade...The blade..." The man pondered, scratching his chin through his collar thoughtfully. He was mocking Xenith, ignoring his question regarding their relationship. "After it gave me this scar, I had to banish it to the ends of the earth." he laughed simply, showing his grotesque hand to Xenith again.
Xenith snapped out of the temporary confusion that he had been put in by the man's words and demanded the location of the sword once more. "Find it and return it right now!" Xenith demanded, sensing impending danger.
"Oh, no, I don't think I will." The man's hand began to glow, flashing between black and white. "I am deeply angered by that sword. You won't be seeing it again, Xenith. In fact, for mentioning it, I'm sure this will be a suitable punishment." Had the collar not been covering the lower half of his face, a smile could easily be seen. Energy began to gather around the man's hand, causing chills to run down Lunesce's spine. She grabbed one of Xenith's arms out of fear.
"Too da loo." the man chuckled, a wave of energy firing from his hand. Instinctively Xenith made sure Lunesce was holding on tightly as he ran behind the Cursed Blade, grasping onto it with both hands. A wave of energy ran from the blade, colliding with that of the man's hand, bathing the area in a blinding light. When the light cleared, Lunesce and Xenith were still crouching behind the sword, but the man was nowhere to be seen.
"X-Xenith? Are you alright?" Lunesce asked, her trembling resumed. "Yes, I'm fine. And you?" Xenith replied shortly, searching around anxiously. "I-I'm fine, Xenith. B-but I wonder where that man went?" she asked, nervous as usual. "I don't know." came the curt reply, though it was followed by an out of character statement from Xenith. "Yes...I don't know. Let's just...get out of here." Xenith said, almost as disturbed by the events as Lunesce was. Lunesce nodded her head in agreement, and as the two approached the exit to the outer forest...
The broken door repaired itself, the hole sealing itself with darkness. It began to pulsate with energy, startling Lunesce and causing her to fall backwards. Xenith turned to pull her to her feet when he saw...
The man stood a few feet in front of them, holding the Cursed Blade in his left hand, still cloaked in the black glove. "You...You fiend! What are you...?" Xenith gasped, the breath taken from him.
"Hmm, the scar is still here?" the man asked, raising his right hand to examine it. "No matter." he laughed twirling the blade in his left hand. Xenith and Lunesce stood there, speechless in front of the man. "I really want to thank you, Xenith." the man chuckled again, staring up at the sky. "The Sacred Seal shall never fade lest he of purity touch the blade. But once the Seal hath lost its power...In fear and despair the world shall cower." The man recited the saying all while staring at the sky. The rain began to pour again, much heavier than it had before.
"You...Who are you?" Xenith asked again. He stepped in front of Lunesce again, his protective instinct once again switched on.
"You really don't recognize me, Xenith? Oh, what a shame. And here I was hoping that my rise to power would be seen by someone so close to me. Ah well...Can't have everything." the man laughed again. Laughter, once regarded as the best medicine, was given a bad name by this man.
"You...I won't allow this!" Xenith yelled, running forward with his arm pulled back. He prepared to deliver a blow when...
The mysterious man caught Xenith's fist in front of him with his scarred hand, throwing and sending him crashing toward the door. "Yes, it is best I end this now so that your last act be considered 'heroic'. Perhaps you should send your cute little messenger to record your final move, Xenith." Lunesce stood firm, this time protecting Xenith by standing in front of him.
"Goodbye...brother." the man whispered before he rose into the air, a dark aura surrounding him. He stretched his right hand in front of him, preparing the same glowing ball of energy he had before. As if reconsidering, however, he forced the energy to dissipate, instead folding his arms and legs toward him. He stretched them out again, waves of energy flowing from his body. The energy corrupted everything it touched: trees burst into flames, grass withered and died and lightning struck all around him. Soon the energy went beyond the boundaries of the forest, hitting and twisting houses, animals, and even the people themselves, leaving Lunesce and Xenith's fate up to the man with the Cursed Blade...
So, what do you think about these two parts of Awesome Land history? These were quite fun to write and I hope they were informative, vague and unrelated to Awesome Land as they may have seemed. As you may have guessed, the Cursed Blade is Hystoger, and soon you'll learn more about the raw power and destruction it was capable of back then.
As I said in most of my Legend of Bob chapters: Questions? Comments? Concerns? Post a message and I'll respond to them as soon as possible.
