It has been exactly 6 months and 3 days since the ad-hoc Pokemon Trainer group "Paladin" defeated the villainous Team Phoenix at the Siege of Burlain. In the interim, Paladin has become a semi-formal Trainer's Guild that has tasked itself with maintaining peace across the Novien region. Those few founding trainers have become the leadership. Tyler, Nicole, Wesley, Janie, Michael, Calfrun, all lead the group for a time, but have since gone their separate ways, leaving the control to the newer recruits. Team Phoenix supposedly dismantled after most of their leadership and members were arrested after the Siege, but authorities suspect that many escaped them. A similar even occurred some years ago after Giovanni, famed leader of Team Rocket, was arrested: the group broke up, but reassembled years later. Together, the police force and Paladin have kept the Novien region quiet so far.
Urien City. One of the largest cities in Novien, packed to bursting with citizens, tourists, and travelers alike. It was easy to remain anonymous here, which was how a hooded female was able to maneuver through the throng of people without attracting too much attention. Overhead, a Honchcrow kept a lookout. Normally, a Houndom would be bounding at her heels, but she couldn't be bothered to worry about him right now.
She stopped only briefly to deposit two cans of spray-paint, still mostly full, but incriminating. Behind her, the crowd stopped and stared at the message she had left on the facade of the Pokemon Center.
"Surrexit ex favilla - Risen from the ashes."
Yolanda smiled underneath her hood.

Steven rose from his bed and stretched.
"Today's going to be a good day, guys," he said to his Pokémon.
After getting dressed and returning his Pokémon to their PokéBalls (except Metang, who hates that confined feeling), he stepped outside to the view of a beautiful ocean.
"Roi Rill," he said. "A beautiful city...and with a Gym no less."
"Do you think we'll be able to win?" asked Metagross telepathically.
"Of course," he replied. "Do you doubt your abilities? Or my insight?"
"Of course not," said Metagross. "I was only wondering since this is a Water Gym, and most of your other Pokémon are weak to Water."
"Yeah, I know. However, we needn't worry. As long as you all trust me, and I keep my mind on the moment, we'll do fine."
"If you say so," replied Metagross.
The two headed down the hill from Steven's townhouse, given to him by his dad when he battled through and won the Hoenn League. He'd been using the townhouse to rest up and get himself ready to make his way through the Novien League; and now, it was time to start his challenge. Armed with his team of Pokémon, his friends, he and Metagross made their way down the hill towards the Roi Rill Gym.

Leon got up from his mat where he meditates (he requires no sleep, just meditation to rejuvenate his mind and body). He opened the blinds to his room and looked out towards the horizon.
Dawn was breaking, and the sky turned from dark blue to blood red on the horizon in Afelfo Town.
"Can you sense it, too, Umbreon?" asked Leon.
Umbreon growled in agreement.
"The disturbance seems to be coming from Urien City. Umbreon, return to your PokéBall."
A red laser-like beam emitted from the button on the PokéBall latched onto Umbreon, surrounded him, and pulled him inside.
"Honchkrow, I need your assistance," said Leon as his Honchkrow appeared from his PokéBall. "I need you to fly me to Urien City, please."
And they flew towards the horizon in search of the mysterious disturbance.

Haar climbed out of his tent and looked down the cliffs of Mt. Solaris. He'd been climbing along with his friend and partner Hippowdon.
"Wow, will ya look at that, Hippowdon?" said Haar. "That's one beautiful view, and I don't want to go back, but we should. I could have challengers."
Hippowdon looked at Haar with a look of disappointment.
"Hey, don't look at me in that tone of voice," chuckled Hippowdon.
Hippowdon let out a hearty laugh, too, and they made their way back to Gravensoil Town. Overhead, Haar saw what looked like a Honchkrow with a Trainer riding on its back heading from the direction of Afelfo Town towards Urien City.

Archie the Growlithe kept pace easily with Tyler as he made his way though Urien City. Somewhere in the tangled mess of streets and people was supposed to be the Normal Pokemon Gym, headed by Kajimiro. He wondered if getting to the gym was part of the challenge.
Archie barked in order to get Tyler's attention.
"Hm? What's up?" Archie pointed with his nose at the crowd that had gathered on the righthand side of the street. They all seemed to be looking at something, but he couldn't see what.
"I wonder...do I actually care what it is?" He did, he decided immediately. Cursing his curiosity, he reached into his pocket for Tallon's Pokeball and let the Crobat out. "Go see what's going, ok?"
The Crobat joined a crowd of other Flying-types hovering above the crowd. He lingered for a moment before flying back.
"Is it important?"
The Crobat nodded furiously.
"Out of the way!" Someone's voice shouted over the crowd. "Out of the way!" The crowd gradually silenced and parted, allowing Tyler to get a look at the source of the voice. It was Kajimiro, the Gym Leader. With him were a few police officers. They stopped at looked at something written on the building.
"What does it mean?" an officer asked.
"Exactly what it says, officer," Kaz replied. "No other group uses this kind of language. Phoenix always was full of itself."
Team Phoenix! Tyler's fists clenched at the memory of the battles six months ago. But they were gone; he was there when they were arrested. He saw...he didn't see Yolanda. She had fled. She was still out there. She did this.
"Should we contact Paladin?" the other officer asked.
"Yeah, they fought off the entire team six months ago."
"No," Kaz replied immediately. "Paladin isn't the law; they're a trainer's guild, nothing more. I don't like them. They've got the same attitude towards themselves as Phoenix did." He exhaled. "And why are you asking me, anyway? I'm not the police chief."
"You are his son," the officer pointed out.
"Yeah. I'll give him my recommendation." The three gave the wall another look and headed off. Tyler got a brief glimpse of the writing before the crowd closed in on it again.
"Surrexit ex favilla".
That sounded like Phoenix alright.

Paul and Leonardo watched the scene from the bistro across the street. Paul sipped at his coffee. "Looks like you were right, Leo," he said to the Smeargle seated across from him. "Phoenix is indeed rising again."
Leo gave him a look that said 'Of course'
"So what next? Got any more in that magic tail of yours?"
Leo shook his head.
"Ah well. We can chill here until then."
