In the year 800, Charlemagne the Frank was crowned Holy Roman Emperor by Pope Leo III. However, Charlemange saw this for what it was. The pope was trying to put a pliable pawn into power. In 802, Holy Emperor Charlemagne declared war on the Holy See claiming that the Pope was trying to play God by making himself so powerful. The war ended with the Holy Roman Empire in control of Italy and with the destruction of the Catholic hegemony in the region. The Roman Catholic Church was forced to move its headquarters to Lichtenstein and to be put under constant watch by its conquerors. The Pope's power was then given to the Holy Roman Emperor.
In the year 1000, Prince Pepin was borne. By the year 1023, the Holy Roman Empire was at war with the Pagan Norse Empire.
More later. Gotta think this shit through.

Tyler, it only gets worse.
In the year 1000, Pepin X was born. As a young boy, he was noted for his reserved nature. Speaking only when spoken to. People in the court either thought that he was a fool or had something to hide. No one saw him as fit to rule the empire.
However, in 1023, the Nordic Kalmar Empire invaded northern Angleland. The Saxons there implored their Frankish and Germanic brethren to aid them. Holy Kaiser Heisenberg rode to war. Within a few short months, the HRE (Now more commonly known as the Holy Roman Kaiserriech, or just Kaiserreich) managed to take all of Denmark. However, they were unable to keep the Norse berserker legions from taking northern Nova Saxony.
On December 25th 1025, Holy Kaiser Heisenberg mounted a massive invasion of the Nordic shoreline, hoping to capture the capital. He also brought his son, Pepin, in order to show him the ropes. The battles waged for two months.
On February 28th 1026, the Nordic Empire was ready to concede defeat. However, right before he was about to sign the terms for the treaty of unconditional surrender, Heisenberg suffered a fatal heart attack. One would expect his son to be stunned, but the scriptures say that he walked over to his fathers body, placed the fallen crown upon his head, and said, "This war is over. I have no wish to subjugate your people. All the land you have taken will have consensuses taken. Those lands that view you favorably, you may keep." And with that, he left Nordenheim.
His reign was one that has fallen into the great national legends of the Holy Empire. He took the money that would have gone to raising armies, and used it to instead build roads, universities, and charity houses. He instituted a high tax upon his Lords and Barons, but gave each of them a seat in the national government. He formed a new senate in the spirit of the Old Roman Republic. It contained three Houses. The House of Proletarians, the second most powerful, with each member democratically elected from his or her principality, fiefdom, province, state, or protectorate. The House of Ætosians, the least powerful, with seats given by heredity from those of royal blood or those with wealth. The House of the Ecclesiarchy, the most powerful, with members hand picked from the clergy by the Kaiser.
His reign was long and just, but as all stories must end, so must Pepin's. He died in the year 1066. His final decree, given mere minutes before he passed, was "Let this kingdom stand till kingdom come. May my children, all of them, be blessed with God's mercy and compassion. Rule through compassion, never fear. When the Kaiserreich stretches across the world and my daughter Empress Sofia leading us in prayer, the lamb will return to lead you into the Kingdom of God."
This final decree was met with some outcry by the clergy. However, one monk named Thomas Luther put out a perhaps the most important theological theory since the Gospel. He said that, "Indeed! The Holy Kaiser was none other than Christ himself! The long prophesied Second Coming had indeed come "like a thief in the night!' ... I proclaim that Christ will come again, this time in the form of a Holy Daughter of God! An Empress Sofia!"
By the year 1100, the Cult of the Holy Emperor Pepin was written into the Germanic Church Canon. Ever since, every first borne daughter of an Emperor (or Empress) has been named Sofia. Thirteen Sofia's have sat upon the throne. However, the Empire does not wish to hasten the end of days. They believe that the world will one day fold in on itself during the tribulation. They alone will be able to hold the world together.
But they are but one empire. One empire in a world bursting to the seams with super powers.
