Magecraft III
In the wake of the events of Magecraft II and the fall of Legion and the execution of the remaining Blood cults, a great movement took place within both of the worlds. The Mage of the Beginning, having decided that he no longer wished to watch over his world, announced his presence to Mundus Veritas (Earth), projecting himself to every human with magical capability of sufficient skill. The next two months saw a mass exodus to Mundus Magica that had not been seen since the Mage first brought access to the other world. Thousands immigrated to the magical world, and then at last, the Mage of the Beginning severed the connection between worlds, cutting off Mundus Magica from its sister world, and in the process disappearing from existence.
Roughly 300 years later, Mundus Magica little resembles what it once was.
Most of the human immigrants from Earth found themselves relocated to the Megolin Federation, which faced overcrowding and economic strife for the following five years. A cultural clash came into effect as immigrants trying to meld into their new society brought new and often controversial opinions to the political scene. The foremost movement within the Megolin government was a radical group that stood firmly against magical abuse, at first, and slowly opposing magic in general.
The world of Mundus Magica changed in other ways as well. The vast arcane storms that wracked the ruined land of Nostia for centuries suddenly dissipated, leaving nature to reclaim the land, transforming the land back into a cold northern tundra.
To the shock of everyone, it was discovered not soon afterwards that the icy wastes of the Frostlands were beginning to thaw. 50 years later, the Frostlands was no longer thus. Now, the only icy lands that the continent held were to its south pole. Explorers, researchers and colonization fleets flocked to the new land, and discovered wonders. The remains of a vast empire littered the land, only now appearing after having been buried in layers of ice and snow for so long. These ruins have long been debated and studies, but scientists can still yield no definite answers to their origins.
40 years after the separation of worlds, Megolin launched a massive invasion of its neighbor country the Hyddick Confederacy. Having resolved most of its internal conflicts (at least superficially) Megolin focused its vast military might on the conquest of Mundus Magica. Ten years later, coinciding with the radical physical changes that began to occur in the world, the Megolin Federation had become the only ruling superpower in the world. The Hyddick Confederacy collapsed, its people fleeing to the deserts of Ceberus as Megolin solidified its hold over the western hemisphere. Xiolin, having only securing its independence from Megolin in the Second Great War, swiftly found itself once again under the heel of Megolin rule. Ossen, ever neutral in the affairs of Megolin and Hyddick, proved to be a tough opposition for Megolin. The foremost problem was the Dark Wing Association, which held their headquarters in Ossen. Meegolin lost a good many of their forces in fighting the legendary organization. But in the end, Dark Wing was overwhelmed, and over two hundred of its members were put to the sword. Ossen surrendered two months later.
Altinor cut itself off from the world, sealing its borders and refusing admittance to any more into its famed Academy. Little has been heard from the small nation since.
Nearly 60 years into Megolin’s grand rule of Mundus Magica, the nation fell to pieces. Political strain had been tugging the nation in different directions since the Separation, but it was only then that the in-fighting reached critical levels. Massive Anti-magical movement had grown to become serious threats, as more factions took their stance on either side. It is not clear what exactly was the cause for the civil war that followed, only that it became a war of idealism. 20 years of civil war nearly destroyed the civilization, and in the process much magical and technological advancement was lost.
In the end, the world became divided once more. Two greater nations arose from the civil war. Imperial Vaer, the result of the anti-magical movement, became situated to the west, in what was old Hyddick and southern Nostia. The Republic of Arcia occupies what was the original Megolin Federation. Both Nations are in mutual truce, though neither truly accepts the other.
The dragons that used to roam the great lands of Elborn have disappeared, and whispers of a strange, new people are popping up, though none have ever truly seen these strangers.
