ok...i have not read the books and I never will for the sheer fact that they are are a blow to Christianity and and real Christian would do the same.
The guy who wrote this ( I discovered to my horror) is a real religion hater and part of the reason he made these books was to bash Christianity.

Exactly Adam. I, sadly, did not learn this until AFTER I read them. Its all symbolism for Christianity bashing.

I'd probably ignore it. It's a fictional story and should be looked at in your own point of view.

He isn't saying DOWN WHIT CHRISTIANITY! or BE AN ATHEIST! He wrote a good novel, that's all. Its the same thing about Harry Potter, people hate it because its "pro-witchcraft". And no, I didn't list these books here to START controversy, I put them here because they are good stories and I heard positive reviews. I honestly didn't think I'd get this kind of response from you guys... Pullman has, however, found support from some other Christians, most notably from Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury (spiritual head of the Anglican church), who argues that Pullman's attacks focus on the constraints and dangers of dogmatism and the use of religion to oppress, not on Christianity itself. Williams has also recommended the His Dark Materials series of books for inclusion and discussion in Religious Education classes, and stated that "To see large school-parties in the audience of the Pullman plays at the National Theatre is vastly encouraging".

That hardly convinces me since I see most Catholic churches in an ill light anyway.
