Ashley's POV:
“So these things are supposed to fix this?” I ask Nicole. I don't really feel pregnant. Am I supposed to feel different?
“Yeah. Like I said before, He just told me I had to fix this, gave me the case, and mentioned me having to kill your spawn-that's the word he used by the way. My hand changed when I touched the case.”
“Why doesn't he just fix this himself,” Afton says, “and he shouldn't have been so vague!”
“We should probably open the case now,” Tyler suggests, “I want to get this over with. I mean, we don't even know what's wrong with me yet!”
We all sit in a circle in the grass. Nicole opens the case and removes the items, putting them in the middle for us to see. First was an hourglass, silver with black sand, which must be what Afton was talking about before, along with the gun. Next came a knife. It is pretty big for a knife, about the length of my forearm, and silver with a black hilt. I'm starting to worry that everything in there is a weapon. Nicole then takes that bottle Afton had picked up when we we're at the lake.
“Do you want this back?” she holds the bottle out to her.
“Um, no, I think I've had enough of the stupid thing.” Nicole nods and puts it back in the case.
The last two objects surprise me. One is a necklace, what looks like a large black widow spider biting a shiny, black ribbon. The other is a silver, folded-paper bird, though I'm not sure what it is exactly.
“Sooo,”she starts, “any ideas?” We all sit quietly for a few minutes. I can't think that the aliens wanted Nicole to perform some kind of abortion. Its ridiculous. Maybe they want her to kill it afterwards, then the knife or gun seem best. I stop-Is my lack of maternal instinct to save the thing wrong?
“I really like the paper crane,” Afton moves to pick up the little bird, but, as her fingers touch it, it flies away!
“Wow, That just happened...”Nicole mutters. Tyler picks up a stick and pokes the necklace, but it doesn't move.
“I really have no idea how to work this out, and we've already lost one now!” he finds his cell phone.
“Are you calling Adam?” I ask him.
“Yeah,” the rest of us just sit there. Nicole declares that the necklace seems more likely for one of the girls.
“It can't be for me,” Afton states, “The hourglass works on me. I think its for you, Nicole. It doesn't seem like it could help Ashley.”
“That does make sense.” I help her tie the ribbon around her neck.
“It looks nice, though I'm not sure about the spider. So, Now we can go with the hourglass being Afton's and the necklace being mine. We're getting there...” Nicole seems okay with this. Tyler shushes us because he's got Adam on the phone. We can fix this.
