Nidhogg, the precursors to cruxis. -----> Half are elves looking into turning themselves into higher beings. All the while the kingdoms of Tethealla and Sylverant are going at it. aselia.wikia.com/wiki/Kharlan_WarNidhogg is relieved to be an organization who instigated this whole incident, knowing that it would kill the great tree. They do not care who wins the war. The war itself is actually fairly underwhelming. Battles are rare, and are mostly comprised of small groups of soldiers going at each other. Similar to the war in the book 1984. The populace is none the wiser, but the royal families are in on it. Nidhogg tells them that if they work together with them, they will become gods (seraphim). Martel (who is just like collete in nearly every way) finds a prototype cruxis crystal and believing it to be a simple jewel, wears it on her necklace. Mithos discovers that he has mastered the art of summoning in his sleep (Nidhogg somehow did this for their schemes) Mithos and Martel one day find Yuan and Kratos attempting to kill each other. Yuan is from Tethealla while kratos is from Sylverant. They eventually become friends

They then meet spiritua, a woman who is trying to find meaning to the universe. She theorises that there is some unifying spirit or deity, but she is having trouble with the kingdom of tethealla. Nidhogg is discovered by the group, but the villains have a plan. Nidhogg tricks Spiritua into thinking that Martel is the "Great All Incomparable One" trapped within a human's body. She kills Martel thinking that it will release the spirit and will bring peace to the world. She sees the consequences of her actions, goes mad, takes Martel's cruxis crystal and becomes a true angel, thus becoming the first Chosen. An equally distraught Mithos uses her to preach the good news of the Goddess Martel.
Eternal sword is made, People rise up against Nidhogg. Cruxis is made in secret.

close, but Spiritua was the First Chosen of Tethe'alla AFTER the Kharlan War.
And this will be an actual war. Nidhogg is trying to kill the Kharlan Tree... I'll make them a human group, since Elves planted the tree once they left Derris-Kharlan.

How about Mithos puts spiritua into "storage" and later uses her to preach the good news?
Also, Nidhogg can be a human group, but we need an explanation for cruxis crystals, and this seems like are best bet.
hell, i just like the dramatic irony of Spiritua being the person who killed Martel.

This is the best (although still vague) summary of Mithos before Cruxis. During the War, the companions went through many great hardships due to discrimination against half-elves, fueled by both humans and elves. Because of this discrimination, Mithos and Martel were blamed for an unnamed misfortune and expelled from their home of Heimdall. They heard of Sylvarant's approaching invasion of Tethea'lla and tried to stop it, only to be ignored because of their race. After the fall of Tethe'alla's capital, Mithos was joined by Kratos, who trained him as a swordsman and a mage. Yuan would complete their party later on, possibly along with Noishe. Mithos would eventually go on to become the great hero of legend by single-handedly making pacts with each of the Summon Spirits (although he had Kratos make the pact with the King of Summon Spirits, Origin, in his place). Mithos then had Origin create the near-omnipotent Eternal Sword, which he used to split the world in two (to create the parallel worlds of Tethe'alla and Sylvarant) in order to prevent more magitechnology from being created. The Ancient Kharlan War was caused by magitechnology, which consumes vast amounts of mana; by splitting the world in two halves and having them vie for the small amount of remaining mana, Mithos effectively stopped the creation of magitechnology and a second cataclysmic global war. Part of the pact with Origin was a promise that he would restore the Great Seed to the world so that it could grow again; this would restore mana to the land. Instead, Mithos took it to Derris-Kharlan in order to revive and protect his dead sister, thereby breaking his pact with the Summon Spirits. copied from: aselia.wikia.com/wiki/Mithos_Yggdrasill

Mithos needs a reason to be expelled from Heimdall... something to draw a parallel between him and Lloyd.
Also, Kraots is from Meltokio... or at least Tethe'alla, I think...

How about this:
He is taught the art of summoning by an old man who lives in the village. However, it is forbidden to teach summoning to half-elves and to make things worse, when he tried to make a pact with a summon spirit, he ended up killing the old man. He and his sister are convicted of murder and thelearingofsummoninging and are then banished.

yeah
but the war had been going on for at least one thousand years prior to this? So why are they invading now?

i have no freaking idea. that was what the in-game explanation was, but I'll supplement it with some Nidhogg crapolla.
The story can be separated into parts:
Mithos the Exile (Banishment) Mithos the Hero (Once the whole group is assembled) Mitho Yggdrasill (following Martel's death)
Spiritua will be part of the group... later... I also need a human traitor to kill Martel. I assume it is one of their friends, since he is a "traitor".

I'm telling you. Make Spiritua the "traitor." It'll be a huge twist to the story and, if done right, it'll add another dimension to the story we're trying to weave. That and reviewers will love it.
Vague continuity be damned.

They never really specify when the first chosen appeared. Other than it being after the war.
She kills Martel believing it to be the right thing to do, and it turns out that it was the worst possible thing she could do. She looses her mind at the thought of killing her best friend and the donning of Martel's Cruxis crystal will allow for her to become the first chosen. This event evolves into something more than just a single sided dead protagonist tear jerker and into an almost Grecian double sided tragedy.
This will also let us show Mithos' more twisted logic (sadistic?) side. Who better to use as your prophet than your perfectly obedient, mentally shattered, angelic slave?
This will also help explain why the Church of Martel is in both worlds. I say that right before he splits the world, Mithos sends Spiritua to preach the news of the Perfectly Divine Goddess Martel. Eventually, he uses Spiritua as a blue print for his chosen system

Alright.
I'm still stuck on whether Nidhogg is a group, or a thing...
either could work but...
Maybe its the forerunners of Desians. Making Exspheres secretly, but distributing them, without letting others know that they're made from people (like coleslaw).
Actually... Nidhogg and Desians are different.

Maybe I'll just have Nidhogg be the leader of the Desians. Sort of the FINAL BOSS.
