I'll admit that I was wrong about Lovecraft not making contributions to literature, but I still stand by my guns in saying that his alternate timelines lack the sparkle of Call of Cthulhu. Lovecraft never made any alternate histories. You're confusing him with Harry Turtledove.

Goddammit. Turtledove is the guy I was criticizing in the first place, not Lovecraft, I got the names mixed up. Thank you, Derrick.
Turtledove is the one who writes the juvenile literature I'm trying to get you guys to move away from. I promise, if you start reading classic literature you'll be better for it. It's a thing where you feel smarter, but rather you see things differently. I feel more enlightened for my reading.

You should have posted all this on the lit board instead of the abstinence crusade board.

The only reason I read classical lit is becasue my English classes require it of me. I have no desire to go out and read something from the 1800's. Only a few books have kept my interest from that time, and one was Frankenstein. I didn't feel smarter after reading them, I didn't feel enlightened. No, indeed I felt as thought I had wasted my time.
Jane Eyre, The Awaknening, Last of the Mohicans, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, and now Wuthering Heights: all of these are classical lit, but i never finished any of them (Wuthering Heights excluded as I am still "reading it") because it was tedious and uninteresting. Futhermore, I got the gist of them from Wikipedia articles and Sparknotes.
Scratch that. Last of the Mohicans I did finish, but only because I had seen the movie prior to that.

Fine then, about your ideas about literature. It doesn't really matter because Lucco will continue to read his classics and you guys will continue to read Lovecraft because neither of you will convince either to read your books.

But we aren't saying "Don't read that, read this" He is. And doing it in a stuck up, pretentious manner.

...I think it's like a bunch of guys arguing over crap. It's like how you say girls can't let go of a grudge. Well guys can't drop an argument until they're right.

If it bugs you guys so much, then do what I do. Ignore it. Does it matter? No because you won't listen anyways so it shouldn't matter about what they say.
