(It pains me to type '^.^'. It really does.)
I was speaking to Nicole last evening about her silly prom dress woes, and the discussion eventually reminded me to pester her about a drawing I requested of her X weeks ago. In natural me fashion, I asked if she would surrender her soul to me so I could absorb her drawing ability and use them as my own. And she said no. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? She actually suggested that I learn to draw myself! I was absolutely devastated! Normally I don't take advice from women who aren't my mother, but in this case I decided to make an exception and attempt to lrn2draw, if only so I could one day spite her. SPITE, I SAY.
Anyway, I can't draw worth CRAP. The right side of my brain, which controls all of that artistic nonsense, was eaten and used to fuel the left side of my brain, where logic and reasoning reign supreme. But, I still decided to embark on this quest and add 'drawing' to my already lengthy list of mastered skills. I chose to focus me efforts on an anime-esque (emphasis on 'esque') style because it's relatively simple (EXCEPT FOR ME), recognizable, and looks cool. Anyway, I started last night almost immediately after Nicole wouldn't give me her powers, and here are the results. Make fun of me as you will! (Note - I don't have a scanner here at college, so the pictures of the 'pictures' were taken with a camera. ENJOY THE QUALITY.):
This is one of my earliest attempts at drawing, from about 6 years ago. Kyle Davis and I were fooling about in Algebra class, and for one reason or another I decided to draw him as an 'anime' character. The attempt failed, BUT I WAS ONLY 11. As you can see, everything about it sucked. EVERYTHING.
That's a skeleton. And by that I mean stick figure. I drew it as practice for my Kyle Davis drawing. As you can see, the imprint of my Kyle drawing is visible. No further comment.
A face! Barely getting better. Just a face, for practice in a legitimate body drawing. I hate the eyes, the hair is blocky, but it's just practice.
Wasn't really pleased with the face, so I decided to draw a bunch of eyes last night for practice. Some are good, some are bad. Anime eyes are the most important part of a character, AND THEY'RE SO DAMN HARD. Ah, well. LOOK IN TO THE DOZENS OF EYES AND DESPAIR.
My first real person OMG! I was quite pleased when I drew that last night. Hair is a bitch to draw, but I TRIED. It looks more humanoid than my Kyle picture, that's for sure. I think the eyes are a bit too slanted, the feet are a bit too...blech,and the breasts are too large. All in all, I don't think it's too bad as my first 'real' drawing.
Last one for today. Drew it last night in a similar vein to the previous one. I was pissed off with drawing eyes, so I was like "SCREW IT. She'll be a pirate in a bathing suit, have an eyepatch on one eye and the other one closed." To me she has sort of an excited look, kind of like "OMG I JUST BECAME A PIRATE I'M SO HAPPY!!!11!one!" The proportions are a little off (the head is just a tad larger than it should be, which makes everything look strange by comparison, IMO) and she doesn't have legs, but by this time it was 1 AM and I just didn't feel like finishing.
Anyway, that's all I've gotten so far, but I'll be updating this thread periodically to keep you up with my progress. I'm not looking to be Tite Kubo here, but before I die I'd like to say that I can draw more than stick figures. ANYWAY, COMMENT/QUESTION/CONCERN YOURSELVES HERE. I'll be in the library printing out lab reports...
