UM EXCUSE ME RAYQUAZA HYPER BEAMED THE HELL OUT OF THIS PLANET WTF MYKAL PAY ATTENTION
(PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN)
"Michael! Wake up!"
"Huh—what?"
Michael snapped awake and jumped to his feet. He blinked several times to allow his eyes to adjust to the light, then looked in front of him to see his sister, Kallie, across a battlefield, with two Shedinja in between them. Now he remembered: he was battling his sister, the leader of the Hivelum City Gym, for a Locust Badge!
"Sorry, sis," he muttered. "You know I inherited Uncle Bilbo's narcolepsy."
"Haha, I haven't forgotten," Kallie sniffed in mock disgust. Then she grinned at her younger brother. "Let's just finish this! Zippo! Use Ice Beam!"
"Quick, Zeus! Use Aerial Ace before he can power up!" Michael yelled, reacting quickly. Before Zippo could even fully charge his Ice Beam, Zeus was in the air, and a split second later, Michael's Shedinja was behind Kallie's.
"Zippo, redirect Ice Beam at the ground!"
With ninja-like reflexes, as indicated by his name (Shedinja), Zippo shot his attack at the ground, throwing him high into the air. The confused Zeus unleashed his Aerial Ace on empty air, narrowly missing the ice pillars that formed directly in front of him.
"Heh, that was close. You almost had me there, bro," Kallie laughed.
"Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades," Michael threw back, ignoring his sister's grimace at the sound of the Mote Quote. In the same breath, Michael shouted, "Zeus, use Fury Cutter!"
Zeus shot upward toward Zippo with glowing claws.
"Zippo! Double Team, then Shadow Ball!"
"Zeus! Use another Aerial Ace!"
Slightly confused by the new command in mid-attack, Zeus scrambled to obey.
"Zippo, you use Aerial Ace too!"
Zeus escaped from the ring of Shedinja copies just in time to avoid Zippo's Shadow Ball. But as soon as the Shadow Ball had passed, Zippo was behind Zeus, and a moment later, Zeus was on the ground, unable to battle.
Michael gaped, but quickly regained his composure. "Good job, Zeus! Alright, your turn again, Cell!"
A Scyther appeared in front of Michael and growled, "Ditto!" Cell slid his blade wings against each other, as if sharpening them.
"Cell, into the trees!" Michael commanded.
"Oh, no you don't!" Kallie hissed. "Zippo, Ice Beam!"
"Cell, get out of there and use Razor Wind!"
But it was too late. Just as Cell reached the edge of the woods, the foliage was encased in a block of ice, trapping the imitation Scyther. The ice shattered, and Cell fell to the ground, all energy drained from his body.
Michael flinched. He drew Cell back to his Pokéball to rest and fumbled around on his belt for his next Pokémon. With Breeze [Swellow], Zeus, and Cell all down, he only had Scar [Grovyle], Checkers [Kingdra], and Xero [Waspear - evolved form of Beedrill] left. Neither Kingdra nor Grovyle were good matches for a Shedinja, and he wanted to reserve Waspear for Kallie's last Pokémon, who he knew would be Dusie, her Vespiquen. Then he looked at the frozen trees, and an idea hit him.
"Go, Checkers!" he called out confidently.
A Kingdra materialized, hovering a few inches above the field. Checkers stared down Zippo, determined to conquer the odds and emerge from this battle victorious.
"Ha!" Kallie smirked. "Did you already forget what I just did to Cell? Oh, well. If you insist. Zippo, use Ice Beam again!"
"Checkers! Water Spout!"
Ice collided with water in the center of the field, creating a thick mist. It appeared as if Checkers would lose the showdown as the ice began to creep toward him just before he was engulfed in the mist. But as the mist began to clear, it was evident that neither Pokémon had survived the other's attack. The spray from Checkers' Water Spout had frozen mid-flight and transformed into deadly shards of ice that drove into Zippo's weak shell. And the stream of water emitted from Checkers' mouth had been frozen solid by Zippo's Ice Beam, eventually reaching Checkers to knock him out.
Kallie stared in awe. "Wow..." She returned Zippo to his Pokéball before finally managing to shut her gaping mouth. "I have to admit, bro, I never would have seen that coming in a million years. That was a really good move."
"Thanks!" Michael said, his face glowing at the success of his plan as he too withdrew his fainted Pokémon. Now all that remained was his sister's Vespiquen. He jerked his head, signaling for Xero to enter the battlefield. The humongous Waspear hovered past his trainer and cocked his head at Kallie, as if trying to provoke her.
"Fsst!"
"Looks like this is it, little brother," Kallie said with a grin. "Dusie, let's do this!"
A slightly larger than normal Vespiquen emerged from behind the shack that stood behind Kallie, taking her place in front of Xero in the center ring of the field.
Final Round... FIGHT!
