Completely unaware of everything that just happened, Johnny Mambutoo O'Malley entered the story.
He had long since given up his claim to Really Cool Land's throne and chose to wander the Lands with his dark powers.
He couldn't help but think of the life he left behind and... of Sarah and Cha Cha...
What were they up to?

Vincent and Kayne being surrounded with annoying sounds all day in the Workshop had earplugs and Vincent being murderous already that Zento had puked on his shoes began playing quickly a Jazz solo known to be the JS Bach theme. The JS Bach theme, Chicago, reverberated causing horrible dissonance to Born to Hand Jive. The dissonance began to crack the Echo Screens. Kayne stopped while Vincent finished off the theme. "I hope they shatter soon cause I'm getting a little annoyed." The echo screens cracked some more but then the dissonance faded mysteriously causing confusion in the Jazz duet.

Covering his ears, Rowlek looked around and saw Michael riding off on his speeder bike. He followed the Bari-Sax Player into the Eastern Mountains unnoticed by the rest of the Regiment. Jacob and Chris, both well-learned in the ways of the Woodwinds and their tactics, whipped out their instruments. They began playing Carnival of Venice together, the awesomeness of the song canceling out the ear-piercing shriek that the Hidden Scale had emitted from his Clarinet. The echo of the Clarinet was soon replaced by an equally ear-piercing, but much more pleasing, sound of a perfectly blended Trumpet-Baritone duet playing super fast notes. After they had finished, glissando-ing up to a Super F, Chris stopped playing, and Jacob put a Plunger Mute over his bell. He proceeded to do the best horse impression anyone had ever heard coming from a Trumpet. The effect of the Plunger caused any sound being reflected from the Echo Screens to be swallowed into the Mute. There was a sudden silence. The citizens of Ausum Land (Ausumites.... sorry, Robert. I like Ausumite better than Ausumian) got to their feet and looked around. The Plunger Mute had also erased the memories of most of the Ausumites. Only a select few retained the memory of what had just happened. Those who remembered (Cha Cha, Xero, Jacob, Chris, Lacquer, Vincent, Zento, Kayne, Tuba Justin, and anyone else I'm forgetting) stealthily moved past the crowd and through the Eastern Gates, the Gates closing silently behind them. The Phantom Regiment, somehow reading Lacquer's mind, returned to the palace to protect the Ausum King, the Really Cool Queen, and the Really Ausum Heir.

Back at the palace, Mykal had was awake again and was wandering around the castle. He discovered the instrument storage room and picked up an instrument he liked. That instrument happened to be a Piccolo Trumpet. He looked at it curiously. It fit his hands perfectly. He found a mouthpiece in the Trumpet's case and examined it. It was a 14A4a. He had no idea what that meant. He simply shrugged and screwed the mouthpiece into the lead pipe.
That was when the Hidden Scale had appeared and blasted Born to Hand Jive throughout all of Ausum Land. Being familiar with the song and the movie Grease, Mykal placed the Piccolo Trumpet in its case and began doing the Hand Jive. The piercing notes seemed to do no harm to him. After tiring of the Hand Jive, Mykal grew annoyed with the constant repetition of the song and picked up his newly selected Piccolo Trumpet. He put the Trumpet to his lips and blew through the instrument a few times. No sound came from the instrument. He looked at the Trumpet critically. He adjusted the slides a few times and screwed in the valves, then tried again. A faint wailing sound came from the instrument. Frustrated, Mykal lowered the Trumpet and took a deep breath. Raising the mouthpiece to his lips again, Mykal released an incredible stream of air at an unbelievable rate. What happened next shocked everyone throughout Ausum Land.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the throne room, Phantom was practicing his Flugelhorn. He loved that instrument. He played a few scales, then played a short excerpt of American Elegy. He smiled, satisfied when he had finished the Trumpet solo. Suddenly, there was a piercing squeal. It resounded all throughout the palace. Deep in the throne room, the soundproof walls had blocked the sound of the HS playing, but this was different. Nothing could penetrate the walls of the Ausum Throne Room! Phantom threw the doors open and saw Mykal walking out of the instrument storage room, holding a Piccolo Trumpet to his mouth. He stared at his grandson in amazement. The seven-year-old Heir to the thrones of Ausum Land and Really Cool Land, son of the Trumpet Hero, nephew of the Trumpet Master, and grandson of the Music Legend, was playing LOLPICOLLO C!!! And with each step Mykal took, the sound coming from the Trumpet seemed to continue increasing in frequency. Pretty soon, he had reached TRUMPET SUICIDE C!!!!!!!
Phantom staggered back and fell into his throne. Never had any surviving Trumpet Player ever attempted to reach Trumpet Suicide C. As its name tells, it was suicide to even attempt it. And his grandson had just played it with little to no effort! This boy was a Prodigy!
~He belongs in the Academy of Legends!~ Phantom thought. He got to his feet and ordered guards to watch Mykal as he went to find the Headmaster.
Vincent smiled broadly as he heard his masterpiece of a Piccolo Trumpet play the Suicide C. I must meet the prodigy who could play such an insane note on that Trumpet. The note rang pure and true which hinted that even though that note was near impossible he knew that this trumpet player would survive.
Cha Cha, Xero, Lacquer, Jacob, and Chris, already deep into the Mountains, ignored the call of the Ancient Tune because they were already where they needed to be. They did, however, join in with TJ playing the song in sympathy for his lack of comprehension of what had already happened. They stood at the base of the Mountains at the entrance to the Hidden Caves, playing Pachelbel Canon and waiting for Tuba Justin to catch up with them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rowlek was already deep into the Hidden Caves. He had followed the trail imaginary spit that should have been left by Michael's Bari Sax because Michael is cool enough to have a Saxophone that is actually a Brass instrument. It's called the Jazzaphone. Rowlek was unaffected by the Ancient Tune. The Hidden Caves were formed with the Ancient Magic of the Woodwind Sages, hollowed out in a fashion that canceled out any sound that came in or out. Rowlek followed the trail of spit on the floor of the cave and soon came into a clearing. He looked up. He could see the sky again. He took a breath of fresh air. Then he heard a rustling in the bushes. He looked over and noticed something metallic. He pulled Vor'em from its sheath and summoned Issmer into his free hand. He crept toward the metal object. A twig snapped and the object whirled around. Rowlek froze and stared at the robot: its gleaming eyes, its wiry arms, its green mustache and orange turban....
"Vincent play a scale for me preferably 6 or 7 octaves." Vincent complied after training with the strictest of tutors he could easily play up to an 8th octave, but farther than that would kill him.(lolz highest played note on a trombone is F 6 octave. trombones keep going up but you need awesome em brochures.) He played a strong A-flat scale to the 6th octave. A portal to cut through magic barriers appeared but it took at least a few days to recharge the portal magic found in these epic scales. Kayne and Vincent stepped through finding themselves at the exit of the Woodwinds caves.
As the R2D2-like robot approached Rowlek, the robot seemed to hear something. It emitted a series a beeps and noises that sounded like the word "derp," then the robot disappeared into the woods. That's when Rowlek realized where he was. He was in the Woods of the Winds, the infamous forest on the far side of the Eastern Mountains. It was only rumored to exist, as no Brass had dared to travel past the Eastern Mountains since the First War.
He looked around and heard the piercing screech of a Flute and a Piccolo attempting to play in unison. Rowlek put his Ausum Earplugs in and continued walking into the forest, following Michael's trail.
He walked on for what seemed like hours. Suddenly, he began to hear something very odd, even through his Earplugs. It sounded like chanting and wood hitting against wood. Rowlek reached up and snapped a large branch from a tree, preparing himself for anything. His other hand wrapped around the hilt of Vor'em. He crept to the edge of the woods and ducked behind a bush. He parted the leaves of the bush and peeked out to see what was going on. What he saw next astonished him.
He was just outside a village. A fire was burning in the town square and people were marching (lol yeah right, moar liek walking) around the fire. But what was even weirder was what the people were doing. Each one of them had a block of wood, and each was carrying their wooden instruments of choice. The people carried their instruments in modified position while hitting themselves in the head with their blocks of wood, chanting:
Pie yesu domine Dona e'is requiem.
Then he noticed a flash of light above the fire. Hanging from an abnormally long tree branch that stretched all the way from the woods to a position directly over the fire, was Michael Smith! The flash Rowlek had seen was the gleam of Michael's Bari Sax reflecting the light of the fire.
The tree branch had a strange look to it. It was black and had large silver stumps placed at specific intervals across the branch. At the end over the fire, a strip of silver bark wrapped around the branch, connecting the only piece of normal-looking, brownish wood to the rest of the branch. Rowlek thought it looked familiar, but he ignored it for now and returned his attention to Michael and the citizens of the village.
With each lap around the fire, Michael seemed to fall closer and closer to the fire. Then Rowlek realized what was going on: the Woodwinds were going to sacrifice Michael!
Meanwhile, Cha Cha, Xero, Jacob, and Chris waited at the mouth of the Hidden Caves, still waiting for Tuba Justin to arrive.
Beethaven: Amadeus, The Great Tree: The Watsrobes' Coronation Day: Evening
"Great Tree Amadeus," a man said, dropping to one knee in front of the gigantic tree that formed most of the mass of Beethaven. "I have just been informed by a Commodore Estdyn of the Special Land Royal Navy that Queen Crider of Ausum Land has passed away."
The Great Tree creaked and groaned as it spoke to the man. "Yes. I have felt the sudden disappearance of her Musicality."
"Of course, King Amadeus," the man said. "Two of the Watsrobes, Phantom, holder of Strad, and his son Xero, were to be crowned today."
"Were?" Amadeus wheezed. The Great Tree had been around as long as anyone could remember. It was thought that he had been around even before the founding of Beethaven thousands of years ago.
"Yes, Your Highness. You see, two men from the Evil Hidden Squad were sent to assassinate the new King of Ausum Land. Their attempt failed, however, and they killed two guards instead. Phantom has already been crowned, but the crown that was meant for Xero was stolen by one of the assassins, Alexander Rudat."
The Tree's branches swayed violently at the thought of Woodwinds attacking Brass. He had been alive during the First Battle of the Bands and had witnessed its destruction. Another war was on its way. He could feel it in his roots.
"One of the two assassins has actually joined the Brass. His name is Michael Smith. Lord Zanobi Trebowski sent a man known as the Hidden Scale to create chaos in Ausum Land, and Michael went after him. A few men, Xero Watsrobe, Rowlek Keleche, Gould Lacquer, Vicnent, Kayne Mass, Zento Calfrun, and Tuba Justin, are following them into the Eastern Mountains of Ausum Land. Nothing more is known as of yet."
The Great Tree gave a mighty groan and his massive trunk twisted to reveal an ancient face. He was frowning, as if pondering something.
"Lord Holst!" Amadeus called. A tall, sturdy-looking man stepped from a small cave behind the Great Tree.
"Yes, my Master?" Holst replied. Holst was old, almost as old as the Great Tree itself, though it did not show. The Tree had granted him unimaginable Musicality, giving Holst limitless youth. His music had survived the ages, and, therefore, so had he.
The Tree took a deep breath and spoke in a deep, rumbling voice. "Summon Master Gabrieli. Tell him to prepare his team. It seems the Brass Legends must reveal themselves once again."
"Yes, my Master," Holst said, bowing, then withdrawing into his cave. Amadeus turned around, signaling that the messenger was dismissed. The man ran into a tunnel and appeared outside the might walls that enclosed the Great Tree. He informed Commodore Estdyn, who was waiting aboard the Lauren, Queen Lauren Special's flagship, that help would be sent immediately. The Brass Legends were known for their quick action.
Suddenly, a huge gust of wind came from inside the walls and a loud rustling of leaves could be heard. Amadeus was summoning the Orchestral Brigade, as well. This dispute between Ausum Land and Lolfail Land was turning out to be a bigger matter than anyone thought.
Ausum Land: Academy of Legends: The Watsrobes' Coronation Day: Evening
Phantom hurried through the door of the Academy and rushed past the receptionist. He remembered that day in Awesome Land when Xero had shot the receptionist at Dark Hole Headquarters. He laughed when the receptionist at the Academy looked shocked at his presence. He thought she thought he was going to kill her, but then he remembered that he was now King of Ausum Land, and he had to get used to that reaction.
He ran up the stairs to the Headmaster's office. He threw the door open and began to speak in a jumbled mess of words.
"Marsalis Headmaster Wynton. Son-grand my Mykal Trumpet Piccolo played Suicide Trumpet C. Him accept Academy into your?"
Headmaster Wynton Marsalis stood from his chair and looked the King straight in the eyes. Somehow he understood what Phantom had just said because he replied, "Trumpet Suicide C? Why, no one has attempted that in ages! Even I cannot reach it. I only know of one other besides the Watsrobes who can play it: Allen Vizzutti. This is amazing! Your grandson must be a Prodigy! We will accept Mykal into our Academy immediately. Our lesson for tomorrow is double tonguing. Have him here by 9:30am. Trumpet Suicide C!"
Phantom shook the Headmaster's hand gratefully and hurried back to the castle. He had to tell Sarah.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back at the palace, Mykal was beginning to fall asleep as Sarah told him a bedtime story.
"Uncle Johnny jumped on the monster and began hacking at it! But the monster's arm crashed down on our ship. I fell into the water and clung to a piece of the ship. But Johnny disappeared. The monster was gone and the other Artifacts of Wisdom fell to the ocean floor. I drifted back to Awesome Land, where your father found me and helped me recover."
She looked at Mykal and saw that he was sound asleep. She laid him down in his bed and blew out the lamp. She got in bed herself, and Mykal began humming in his sleep. The tune soothed her, images of ancient times, ancient times of Brass-Woodwind harmony, appearing in her mind. She soon fell asleep to the tune of the first movement of Gustav Holst's First Suite in Eb.

At the Hidden Caves, suddenly, Cha Cha stopped playing Pachelbel Canon. He felt something strange. Three things, to be exact. He felt a strange rush of power that seemed to come from Mykal. He felt Ausum Land's past in Sarah's dreams. And he felt a presence he hadn't felt in years. It couldn't be! Or could it?
Cha Cha left the others at the Cave entrance and returned toward the Ausum Kingdom. When he reached the Eastern Gates, he played Shotgun, and the Gates swung open. He walked into the kingdom, the Gates closing behind him. He wandered through the kingdom, past the palace, past the town square, and toward the port, where his ship, the Valiant II, was docked. He noticed a dark figure on the beach and cautiously approached it. As he drew closer, distinguishable features began to appear on the man's face. Cha Cha stared at the figure in disbelief.
"Johnny!?"

Now that Tuba Justin was finally there, the others entered the Caves. They were wondering why Cha Cha had left, but none of them questioned his reasoning. Cha Cha, the Trumpet Hero and King of Really Cool Land, always had a reason for everything he did. Except for his random intellectual outbursts, but that hadn't happened in years.
As they walked deeper into the caves, they began to hear a strange sound. It was the sound of the "unison" Flute and Piccolo. They all put in their Earplugs, then continued onward into the clearing. They were in the Woods of Winds. Xero knew this place. He had learned of this place years ago when he was studying Ausum Land's history. Then they heard the chanting that had drawn Rowlek to the village. They walked through the woods and walked out into the middle of the village. The Woodwinds gasped and turned to look at the travelers.
"Wikimiki mongu!" one of the villagers exclaimed.
The rest of the villagers repeated him. "Wikimiki mongu!"
Confused, the travelers just stood there.
"Run!" Michael shouted from his position above the fire. "You're intruders on their ceremony! They're going to kill you and sacrifice your bodies along with me!"
"Sacrifice to who?" Lacquer asked.
"To the Woodwind King! Who else?" Michael answered. "RUN!"
The Woodwinds hefted spears, torches and their instruments and charged at Xero, Lacquer, Tuba Justin, Vincent, and Kayne. The travelers turned and fled from the village.
Rowlek took his chance. He jumped from his hiding position once all the villagers were gone and threw dirt on the fire. He took Vor'em from its scabbard and hacked at the rope tying Michael to what was apparently the village's Sacred Tree. Rowlek looked at the branch again and finally realized why that branch was so special to the villagers: it was a giant clarinet!
As he realized this, the ground beneath him began to shake. The villagers chasing the travelers grew anxious and ran back to the village, hurrying home and slamming their doors behind them. The travelers rejoined Rowlek and Michael and wondered what was going on.
"What's happening?" Lacquer asked.
"It must be some kind of trap," Michael explained. "It's part of their ritual. If the ritual isn't completed, the Woodwind King will unleash his wrath on the village. We have to get out of here!"
Michael hopped on his Bari Sax and sped off through the village, deeper into the Eastern Mountains. Rowlek pulled Issmer from his side and turned it into a Trombone. Mounting his new instrument in a similar fashion, Rowlek sped off after Michael, soon followed by Vincent and Kayne on their Trombones, Xero on his Herald Trumpet, and Lacquer and Tuba Justin on their Tubas/Contras.
They escaped the village just in time. As they reached the foot of the tallest mountain in all of Ausum Land, Mount Danock, the Ausumites turned around to see the village erupt into flames, then disappear in smoke. The smoke lifted very slowly, revealing the ashen remains of the village. The light glinted off the metal ligature of the Sacred Clarinet Tree as the travelers continued into the next of the Hidden Caves.
