Also, when Asuka is introduced, can we have like a sort of class meeting right before she walks in. It'd bascially just be Hikari saying something like, "Ok class, about our new student... Well, she's from a very different place than us."
"Canada?"
"No... Erm, Germany."
Toji: "AH DAMMIT, NOT A COMMUNIST!"

Somethign like that. Hikari will probably be a closer friend to Shinji at first, since Toji was only friends because they hit each other and Kensuke because Shinji was a pilot.

She never seemed particularly proud of her heritage. Aside from speaking (and swearing) in German occasionally, it was never a big thing. If Germany's colors are Red in this TL, then that adds a bit more of the patriotic, besides it being her favorite color - but red in the anime was supposed to represent her fiery personality anyway.
She could be proud of Germany, and compare things to her home, but I don't really see patriotism begin a huge part of her character, unless we're trying to include the state of the world, in which case it might be necessary.

That's what I'm saying.
Here's my suggestion for her butterflyed personality.
She's still a firey red-hed, but she only lashes out for certain things. She's been raised in what could be described as the beginnings of a Utopian (if not somewhat close minded) state. When I say patriotism, I mean more towards the "inevitable" world revolution that the Commie bloc fervently believes in and uses to justify their actions.
Bascially, she'd see a situation and would bitch about some aspect of it being "unfair" or "exploitive". In her everyday life, she's just something of a know-it-all, but is otherwise pretty approachable. However, if you ever try to mention some short coming of Germany (or the 4th International in general) she'll bite your head off.
She'd also be somewhat shocked by societal and economic devisions. IE: some people living in mansions while others live in shacks.

I'm actually surprised he watched the show at all. I bet he hates Canon!Shinji and Canon!Rei, adores Asuka, loves Gendo BECAUSE he's a bastard, hates/doesn't understand the last two episodes, hates/does not understand EoE, thinks the show wasted a good idea on psychology, thinks the first Rebuild movie is a waste of time, and loves the second Rebuild movie and wishes the show was more like that.
Just a guess.
