It's always there, just fangirls discovered the site, I suppose. And really, it doesn't infuriate me. I won't read it (but then I don't go to the site to READ generally) so it sort of baffles me why it angers people.

I think it just angers folks who stumble onto a well written story and it suddenly turns into Cloud on Sephiroth action.

Or in the case of the Evangelion section, you have to wade through 5 million fics before you find one that isn't a Nobody Dies spin off/ rip off.

probably not. NERV Alaska was good, and so was the sequel. Ichi's Birthday Party was, too (but then, EarthScorpion is amazing) I never got around to Six ATs, One Continent, even though its pretty major canon now.
