Carter kicked the ground. "Maaaaaaaybe."

"Well, that isn't good." Clyde stopped in his tracks and laughed nervously. "You see, the Fallen Paradise is technically 'owned' by Super Land. When I first created it long ago, I built the portal in Super Land, so they run the place. Of course, Super Land is a clan of light worshiping birds, so they would have nothing to do with this place. It's still theirs, though. If Laurine controls Super Land, then she controls the Fallen Paradise...and me..." Clyde sighed and sat down, his legs almost spanning one the width of the entire pit.
"That's right!" came the sing song voice of everyone's favorite (and by far the most evil) tyrant ruler, Laurine! She was still up in Awesome Land and was contacting them through her trademark megaphone. "I own our little Demon King here, and I think I'll be using him to...get rid of you. Have fun!" Laurine laughed.
"You're kidding?" Clyde demanded, but it was all in vain. "I guess I don't have a choice. Sorry, friends of Leon. I must kill you all. My consequences will be 'dire', to say the least." Clyde stood up and raised his arms into the air. A ring of fire appeared above the pit; anything that passed through it would be incinerated immediately. "Flare!" he yelled. A giant fireball appeared from under the ring, growing in size each second.

Durzo coughed and looked around. "Right...well this has been fun but..." He began to try and conjure a portal.

Durzo's portal conjuring efforts were all in vain. "Believe me, if I could open the portal to send you guys back, I would. Laurine seems to have sealed off any means of escaping until someone dies." Clyde smiled weakly as he tried to slice open a portal with his sharp claws. "No dice...We could always sacrifice someone to appease Her Royal Godliness..." Clyde mocked Laurine, hoping she hadn't heard him. "So, whom shall we sacrifice? I'd much rather you guys leave and stop that evil witch than stay here and fight me."

"Well, it can't be Durzo," Carter pointed out. "For continuity's sake. He's still alive in the future, so...."

Cybele looked at Carter. "It has to be one of us..."

"I'd do it, but I sort of already made an unholy 'trade your soul for immortality pact' with myself." Clyde said matter-of-factly, as if such a thing were common place. He waved the pendant around his neck proudly; it was the artifact that had sparked his transformation in AL3.

"Can I do that same thing with you? Trade my soul for immortality?" Carter was suddenly interested.

Clyde stared at Carter with an expression that seemed to combine confusion, surprise, and amusement. "I'm afraid that this is the only one of those objects that would allow such a thing. I don't know why you'd even consider it, though!" Clyde sighed and sat back down, crossing his legs. They still spanned about half of the pit. "I did this to myself when I was mad at Raphael, the then-ruler of Super Land. If I could reverse time, I would prevent this from happening. I am forever bound here, never to enjoy life...I wouldn't recommend such a fate to anyone." Clyde stood back up and repeated "And like I said, this is the only object that could do that, outside of some potent dark magic that probably only Delmerith himself would know..." Clyde scratched his head and awaited the next response.

"Aren't you like, the Devil or something? Don't you make deals with people for their souls?" He clenched his fists. "Dammit! Take my soul and let her go!"

Cybele gasped. "You....want to save me?" A moment ago, he had wanted to kill her. He had been hunting her. "You want to just give up your soul after all I've done?"

"You...you're a good person. I've done...terrible things, all in the name of vengeance. And more to fill the void in my heart left by it. You don't deserve this, entirety in hell. I do. Take it, Clyde! Take my soul you goddamn demon!"

An exclamation mark appeared above Clyde's head as his expression became even more confused. "It's times like this that I wish I was human again...so I could remember what these emotions feel like." Clyde sighed and snatched off his pendant. "Are you sure you want to sacrifice yourself for this other person? I'm sure if he waited long enough we could think of another plan..."

"Hmph." Clyde tossed the pendant forcefully at Carter. "Put it on." he commanded. "You do realize that you won't become a demon like me, correct? One of two things will happen: Your soul will be absorbed into the pendant and you will wander the Fallen Paradise as a mere wisp of your former self for all eternity, or you will fade from existence entirely. Are you sure you want to go through with this?" Clyde was hoping the answer was 'no'.

"We'll just see about that." Carter sounded stubborn. Maybe he would be different. He put it on.

"If you insist...Good luck..." Clyde sighed and held his arms in front of him, chanting.
To save his friends he takes the role of the hero with no soul, for soon it will be sacrificed to save the world; a hefty price. This young man with his judgment sound, forever here he shall be bound. By magic dark and filled with hate, may his soul open the gate so that the rest may save the world from that wicked, evil girl.
Soul, be absorbed within the pendant! Fulfill the requirements to reopen the portal back into the real world!
When Clyde finished his chanting, the pendant emitted an ethereal glow as a silver aura appeared around Carter, slowly draining his soul from his very body. Whatever happened then is up to Tyler.

Carter's soul left his body behind, allowing to fade away. the souls of Fenrir and Frigga were also bound to the pendant. Were he able to, Carter would have wept; he thought they would go free, too. They were his only family left, and he would not which this on them.
But go with him they did. For an indeterminable amount of time, Carter and the wolves floated in a Void, until determination took over. Cybele was free to go; Laurine got her sacrifice. Now was his chance to take his revenge.
Around the floating pendant, a figure began to form. In moments, Carter stood once more in full form, the wolves at his side. But he was not the same Carter, nor were these the same wolves. He was a demon now, and the wolves Hellhounds. His form maintained, Carter survived for the one thing he truly lived for: revenge.
"Laurine needs to die."

"Mmm, interesting." Clyde rubbed his chin and took the pendant back. "I suppose the pendant must react to evil, negative emotions. That would explain a lot..." Clyde looked at his arms and torso. He had been filled with hatred when he first used the pendant, hence his current form as the Spirit King.
"As a soulless being, technically you are bound here in the Fallen Paradise. Buuuuuuuuut, I think I might be able to let it slide. Temporarily, at least." Clyde smiled, raised his claw again, and slashed the air. A rip in the space-time continuum opened, leading back to Awesome Land.
"It worked! Now that a soul has been sacrificed, technically you have 'died.'" Clyde told Carter. "You'll have to return in a matter of time unless you want to fade forever, so make the most of your time there. Adios!" Clyde waved them all good-bye as he inhaled and then blew them all out through the portal.

Carter and the Hellhounds landed without problem. Fire burned in him, fueled by vengeance. It had replaced his soul completely.
"You okay, Cybele?"
